Custodian/ Groundskeeper
Reports to: Facilities Manager Salary (Grade): $13.96 (G9-E)

Status: Reg. Full-Time (Non-Exempt) Location: Facilities Office 224 Industrial Road, Winnebago NE 68071 Job Purpose & Position Overview:This is manual work in the custodial and housekeeping care of the Wake & Burial program, Ho-Chunk Center, and the Tribal Facilities program. The work involves the performance of varied cleaning, minor maintenance, and repair tasks following established routines in an assigned tribal facility. Specific instructions are received on unusual jobs. Frequently moving or lifting equipment and materials is required. Work is inspected while in program or upon completing for adherence to instructions and work standards.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribes core mission, vision, and values.
  • Cleans and disinfects office spaces, storage areas, entrances, restrooms, kitchen and dining area by regularly collecting trash, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming waxing, buffing and scrubbing. Will routinely wash walls, countertops and windows.
  • Must maintain the lawn, shrubs, and sidewalks within the exterior perimeter of the Ho-Chunk Center to include mowing, cutting, and snow/ice removal when required.
  • Required to inspect facilities after each event held at the Ho-Chunk Center, including but not limited of the parking lots and fire shed.
  • Will perform minor repairs such as change light bulbs and unclog sinks/toilets. Will report any major repairs to the Facility program, to be compliant with the Ho-Chunk center lease.
  • Must maintain all janitorial and lawn equipment and machinery remains in good operable condition within the Wake and Burial Program.
  • Must report any major repair equipment to the Facilities manager.
  • Responsible for inventory of all supplies and major equipment within the Wake and Burial program.
  • Will stock and maintain adequate restroom supplies as needed.
  • Attend required program and departmental meetings.
  • Will be assisting custodial services within the tribal Facilities program as needed.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • Must have high school diploma or GED. Must produce documentation upon employment offer.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be able to meet drivers eligibility guidelines.
  • Some knowledge of materials, methods, equipment, and procedures using cleaning operation and lawn care/maintenance
  • Ability to make minors repairs and adjustments to Ho-Chunk center and equipment.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as buffers and vacuum.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to perform at an average pace.
  • Must maintain positive attitude and excellent customer service.

Training Requirements:
  • As directed by your supervisor
  • Must attend all departmental trainings and meetings as required by Facilities manager.
Physical Requirements:
  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.
Mental Requirements:
  • Reading, writing, calculating
  • Above average social interaction skills
  • Reasoning/Analysis
  • Work with minimal to no supervision.
Language Requirements:
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
Certificates, Licenses & registrations:
  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
