Position Summary
Under the direction of the Associate Director, the Health and Nutrition Specialist will recruit, train and monitor childcare educators in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and will assist with the planning and implementation of nutrition and health education and support to child care educators and parents. Additionally, Health and Nutrition Specialists will assist with the planning and execution of nutrition/physical activity/health/environmental educational opportunities for child care educators, parents and children.
Program Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support and coaching to child care educators by determining individual training needs.
- Assisting with goal setting, identifying strategies and tools to share, and encouraging participation in quality improvement opportunities to improve and sustain high quality nutrition and physical activity at their site.
- Visit and monitor caseload of child care educators enrolled in the CACFPP at least 3 times per year during regular care and after hours.
- Design and lead trainings and workshops with Health and Nutrition Team for educators, parents and children related to CACFP requirements, nutrition, physical activity, and policy.
- Connect educators to educational resources to assist in understanding nutrition regulations and strategies for program improvement.
- Provide ongoing technical and administrative support to educators with Health and Nutrition program tools and resources.
- Create, update, and translate program related materials, handouts and curricula for provider mailings, event outreach, orientations, trainings, and online resources.
- Maintain educator files; tracking administrative requirements, preparing reports, data and documentation.
- Work in collaboration with other agency departments and staff on projects and events.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bilingual English/Cantonese proficiency (spoken and written)
- Knowledge of child nutrition programs and support a plus
- Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule; occasional early morning, evening and weekend work required
- Must have the ability to travel extensively within San Francisco; Must have clean driving record and valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
• Dexterity to use office equipment; the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time.
• Ability to speak, hear, and understand speech at normal room levels.

Hybrid Work
We have adopted a hybrid working model at Children’s Council. There are a few roles where the hybrid schedule is not conducive. Similarly, there are a few positions that operate 100% remotely. All applicants should be comfortable with both the remote and in office scenarios.
