Nutrition Program Specialist Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Salary Range: $20/hour +DOE

Hours: 40 hours/week; Monday–Friday schedule varies between the hours of 7:00AM-6:00PM.

Since 1967, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake has offered positive alternatives to children who may be surrounded by negative influences, showing them how to live successful and productive lives. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake serves kids at 5 locations in Salt Lake and Tooele. Last year, nearly 4,000 youth attended our Clubs with over 1,200 members coming to the Clubs each day. Boys & Girls Clubs give their members, ages 3 - 18, access to dedicated, caring individuals who can provide guidance in adopting healthy lifestyles and pursuing educational objectives. Most importantly, Boys & Girls Clubs equip young people with the skills they need to resolve conflicts peacefully, improve relationships and function as responsible citizens.

Job Summary:

The Lead Nutrition Program Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting to promote healthy meals and snacks that benefit our youth ages 3 to 18. This includes creating healthy menus in accordance with the Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) guidelines, purchasing foods, and managing a monthly expense and revenue budget. The Lead Food Program Specialist will oversee BGCGSL food services and all CACFP and SFSP paperwork and reporting. They will be expected to attend all required CNP training and maintain good standing with the State Board of Education CNPs.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

1. Meal Planning

• Plan menus in accordance with nutritional guidelines and food restrictions
• Prepare, cook, and administer meals for Members
• Develop and maintain inventory system for food items at all sites to ensure a well-stocked kitchen

2. Budget Management

• Maintain and report on the budget set for the program
• Manage and track expenses and supply budget

3. Data Collection

• Record and report accurate meal count data
• Ensure proper and accurate documentation of meals, allergies, and food restrictions for enrolled children
• Prepare monthly reports

4. Federally Funded Food Programs

• Act as Sponsor for federally funded food programs (CACFP, CACFP At-Risk, and SFSP)
• Maintain relationships with community partners
• Maintain communications with Vendors
• Lead Health Department inquiries and inspections
• Maintain Child Care Licensing, Health Department, and BGCA standards for meal services and kitchens
• Menu planning and procurement to meet USDA, FNS, and USBE requirements

5. Management

• Direct Manager of Child Nutrition Professionals at two Club sites (one full-time CNP, one part-time CNP, and one on-call teen CNP)

6. Safety and Health

• Ensure adequate sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen area and supplies
• Maintain current Food Handler Permit and other required certifications
• Remain current in best practices for health and nutrition services for child care settings

Required Qualifications

Knowledge:

• Experience in tracking and maintaining health and nutrition services
• Considerable knowledge of the administration and management of child nutrition programs and the federal and state laws governing them
• In-depth understanding of the principles and practices of nutrition and food service operations including: menu planning; food safety and production; procurement systems; program, operational, and financial management; and nutrition education

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years old
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check
• Must be able to pass Drug Screening
• Be CPR and First Aid certified (the Boys & Girls Clubs can arrange for this)
• Obtain valid Food Handler's permit as required (the Boys & Girls Clubs will arrange for this)
• Be able to function for more than 2 hours on your feet
• Be adaptable and flexible to change
• Assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in public health, nutrition, nursing, health education, dietetics, or health administration preferred, but not required.
