Signage Industry Production Artist

We are seeking a Signage Industry Technical Designer to join our team!

This is NOT a position for Animation, Video Editing, Multimedia, Marketing, or Web Design. Instead, we are searching for an individual with a passion for design and a keen understanding of the sign industry, printing process, and preflighting tools.

We are a sign company. We take the ideas from customers and make these into “designs”. We then make design packages for stakeholders. Each stakeholder has different needs to get to a “yes” or an approval. This job is about turning out designs. These designs must be technically accurate and appealing to get a “yes” faster and more often. The goal is to use the tools, to get the designs, that make stakeholders happy as fast as possible.

Beauty Shot – to turn customer logos and pictures into quick concept proposals. These should have a brief description of the construction and the sizes marked on the drawing, but no other detail unless specifically requested. These are for sales and not for any other purpose. They may evolve into a product spec, but the first submission is strictly a sales tool. This is – “quick and dirty”, 2 revisions and stop. If we approve more, great, but don’t spend a lot of time on them, -unless specifically asked to. They have one purpose – to get the sale.

Production Packages – These are packages with everything required to build the product once approved. The Bill of Materials, the files to run the CNC, Laser cutter, Printers, and other machines, and details on construction. These files need to start with the name in the server where the Production computers can access these in an extremely obvious and simple way. Also, the details and files under assets in the job.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Ø There is no frequent travel outside the building for this position. Unless necessary for a project survey.

Ø You will sit at a desk looking at a computer screen most of the day.

Ø The hours are 7:30 AM to 4:15 PM on Weekdays.

Ø Occasional overtime might be required to meet production deadlines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A Sign Designer has the following responsibilities:

Ø Design Signs: Create visually appealing and innovative sign designs that meet clients' specifications and brand guidelines.

Ø Ensure Compliance: Review and confirm that all sign designs comply with regulatory requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Ø Collaborate with Business Development: Work closely with the Business Development team to conceptualize and create new sign designs to enhance the product portfolio.

Ø Collaborate with the Special Projects Manager for Samples and Short-run projects.

Ø Supervise and Mentor Design Staff: Provide guidance and support to any Sign Designer or Sign Designer assistant reporting to them.

Ø Coordinate with Production Team: Liaise with the production team to ensure that designs are feasible for production, without losing the artistic integrity of the design.

Ø Quality Assurance: Conduct regular reviews of designs to ensure accuracy, compliance, and artistic quality.

Ø Follow up when sending files. Ask if they received the files, and understand the objective, timeline, Material situation, and any specific details to ensure a smooth project flow.

Ø the design lead is a Member of the Management Team.
