ACCOUNTANT

Trinity Metro has an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant. The incumbent in this position will ensure timely, complete, and accurate reconciliation of various General Ledger Accounts with uniform accounting procedures; create daily bank activity journal entries; maintain and control petty cash fund; provide support to other accounting functions including month-end and year-end close activities and reporting. Provide support for Payroll Specialist including payroll review, quarterly report review, and reconciling payroll liability accounts.

This is an intermediate-level staff accountant position requiring experience and knowledge of all activities of a general accounting office. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Accounting Supervisor and Controller and has primary responsibility for preparing reconciliation statements for various General Ledger Accounts. The incumbent also functions as custodian of the company's petty cash fund. The incumbent is responsible for daily bank activity journal entries, month-end and year-end close activities, reporting, payroll support, and other accounting functions.

This position's responsibilities include:

• Responsible for monthly bank account reconciliations; performs various account reconciliations independently for review by the Accounting Supervisor or Controller; prepares correcting journal entries with supporting documentation, communicates, when necessary, internally and/or externally in order to investigate transactions and corresponds with bank regarding errors or requests for further investigation of transactions.
• Prepares account reconciliations and schedules for assigned asset and liability accounts. Analyzes account activity to ensure that transactions have been posted to the correct general ledger accounts. Prepares correcting entries with proper supporting documentation when necessary. Prepares reconciliation for review by the Accounting Supervisor or Controller and works with necessary staff to correct reoccurring problems.
• Functions as custodian of company's petty cash fund; distributes petty cash, maintains and reimburses the petty cash fund according to established policies and procedures; obtains proper paperwork to substantiate disbursement of petty cash; maintains and files documentation.
• Prepares reconciliations of detailed aged trial balance reports to the general ledger ensuring that transactions are posted correctly to the system. Analyzes information and prepares correcting journal entries or posts correcting transactions directly to the sub-system.
• Assists in annual fixed assets inventory under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor, by identifying and locating all items on the fixed assets system.
• Provides support for Payroll Specialists as a backup for payroll processing. Assists with review of bi-weekly payroll reports and prepares reconciliations of payroll liabilities. Assists with preparation of quarterly reports for payroll.
• Assists in the preparation and analyses of various audit schedules.
• Performs additional special projects, as needed.

EXPERIENCE

Three years of professional experience in accounting or related field. Must have proven accounting and financial analysis experience, including performing bank account and other reconciliations, preparing journal entries, and reconciling general ledger accounts. Must know how to dig into the details to find the correct answers and provide sound suggestions and recommendations.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
