About the Opportunity

Full time, in person position

Schedule is typically Monday – Friday, with the ability to adjust schedule as needed to fulfil the needs of the company.

Pay Range: $80,000 - $95,000 per year commensurate with relevant skills and experience.

The Deputy Chief of System Operations is a senior level management position responsible for the oversight and management of the day-to-day activities and for the development and execution of plans aligned with the strategic direction of the EMS, transport, and Mobile Health Operations, and performs related work as required. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate success in creating and fostering a positive team environment.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manages the functions of Operations, conferring with the Captains, Lieutenants, and staff, observing operations throughout the system, assigning tasks and projects to promote efficiencies and job satisfaction.
  • Under direction of the EMS Chief manages day-to-day activities and develops plans addressing the future strategic needs of the operations
  • Establish and enforce policies, procedures, rules, and regulations that align with the four pillars and core values of the organization and provide suggestions where opportunities for improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness are found.
  • Maintains rapport and collaborates regularly with partnered EMS, Fire and Police to ensure optimal delivery of EMS services and identify potential opportunities for improvement.
  • Assists in the development and responsible for monitoring of and adherence to the operational budget, conducts need assessments and equipment evaluations.
  • Maintains and System Status Management Plan with consideration of changes in factors affecting the business, the industry, and the political and geographic influences.
  • Ensures vehicle fleet and equipment is at the ready, clean, stocked, fueled with cooperation from Logistics and Fleet Manager
  • Leads table-top and post-mortem exercises with staff and leadership to ensure continued refinement of process and for group education.
  • Creates, maintains, updates, educates, and drills on critical response plans such as:
  • General emergency preparedness program
  • Haz-Mat
  • Hostage
  • Natural Disaster
  • Terrorist/Active Shooter
  • Evaluates, coaches/mentors, counsels/disciplines and provides remediation to personnel as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with Safety Officer to ensure a safety culture permeates the entire organization, mitigating risk and ensuring employee and patient welfare.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with preparation of annual budget and participates as an active member in the capital committee.
  • Maintains a process to ensure prompt and complete PCRs for expedient and accurate records for billing and collections.
  • Attends and appropriately represents the company at meetings and functions as directed by the Chief of EMS Operations including but not limited to:
  • Local, regional, state, and national EMS meetings
  • Periodic business review with clients and contracted agency representatives
  • Perpetually identifies opportunities for leadership and people skills development for all operations staff.
  • Ensures prompt resolution of internal and external complaints while monitoring for trends warranting intervention and/or remediation.
  • Prepares and submits periodic reports to internal and external customers and provides correlated information to augment information value.
  • Observes staff performance in the field and suggests/works with training department for development of in-field training quick-hits.

 

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business, Health Sciences, Emergency Medical Services) required; Master's degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in EMS, with at least 3 years in a management role
  • A minimum of 8 years as a Paramedic in EMS
  • Must have NYS Paramedic Certification, or able to obtain within 3 months of hire.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of EMS administrative procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State and city laws and ordinances related to emergency medical services.
  • Thorough knowledge of State policies, regulations, laws, and ordinances affecting EMS operations
  • Ability to lead the operations team while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven leadership and management experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, government agencies, and with the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ sound judgment in administrative matters.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Active listener with excellent communication skills to collaborate with others under any type of condition.
  • Knowledge of current best practices and emerging trends in EMS education
  • Strong computer skills, focusing on Microsoft productivity tools.
