The Senior Project Manager is accountable for enthusiastically “raising the bar” for all project management related initiatives in the firm. This will include a thorough understanding of how Maxson currently executes project management and then embracing change through exploration and experimentation regarding what project management can be. This person will ensure the firm provides creative solutions for our clients and their projects. This role collaborates with the Department Managers and Director of Engineering to mentor the Project Managers in the firm to ensure we continue to excel at a very high level of project management. The Senior Project Manager works closely with project teams and clients to ensure that the client’s expectations are not only met but exceeded while ensuring profitable projects. This role will spend the appropriate amount of time working with Business Development to engage with client organizations that are top prospects within the practice areas, as well as improving and expanding relationships with our key clients. This position reports to the Department Manager and has direct supervisory responsibilities over Project Managers.

  • Develop and execute training, coaching, and mentoring programs
  • Work with the Leadership Team to recruit, interview, hire and on-board design staff
  • Engage and communicate proactively and effectively with all project stakeholders as necessary to ensure project goals and objectives are understood and achieved in a coordinated manner
  • Build consensus with and inspire team members to optimize project performance through a positive and innovative approach
  • Provide engineering leadership and project type expertise to the client and team
  • When appropriate, translate for the client how the design solution addresses their goals and priorities
  • Ensure design complies with regulatory, code, and client requirements - provide quality assurance reviews
  • Collaborate with Department Managers and Director of Engineering to assemble teams that include all required expertise, availability, and resources to meet the client and project requirements
  • Work closely with Department Managers and Director of Engineering to monitor project performance and financial performance
  • Provide direct oversight of project performance with a focus on client satisfaction, project success / profitability, risk management, and team effectiveness
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing of client accounts
  • Prepare agreements / fee proposals establishing project scope, schedule, and expected deliverables
  • Coordinate and facilitate project meetings with project team to ensure understanding and execution of scope of services, project budget, project schedule and team goals
  • Monitor team performance to assure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Ensure project files and reporting are maintained
  • Foster Business Development and Marketing within the culture. This includes developing relationships with Key Clients to drive business and maintain Key Client share
  • Proactive use of the Client Relationship Management (CRM) Database
  • Participate in the Market Share Process – focused on market segments / new clients / new business. This includes involvement in industry such as attending events, developing relationships with people, and learning about target market segments.
  • Participate in the Client Share Process – focused on existing clients / growing existing business. This involves developing relationships with Key Clients, getting work programs to identify upcoming project opportunities, identifying decision makers, and learning who the other industry partners are that do business with the client.
  • Participate in select Project Pursuit Approaches
  • Contribute project specific content to select RFPs
  • Participate in select project interviews
  • Mentor and help develop others into the BD and Marketing Program
  • Understand and participate in risk management
  • Assist with the organization's financial goals, objectives, and budgets
  • Contracts

  • Manage compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

Working Environment:

The work performed with this position will be primarily in a heated/cooled office environment. The job will also involve occasional trips for various business purposes. The equipment this employee is expected to operate include a computer, copier/scanner, phone, plotter, field survey tablet and various other field survey equipment. Lifting requirements are minimal (less than 1% of time) and typically does not exceed 30 pounds.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive engineering experience in building construction industry
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot system designs
  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in team leadership and managing and mentoring junior staff
  • Understanding of regulatory and code requirements
  • Strong decision management and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to travel occasionally

Desired Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer strongly preferred
  • Experience and proficiency with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent experience
