Job Summary:
The Fleet Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the company's fleet of vehicles and trailers. Reporting directly to the Director of Fleet Operations, the Fleet Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation of the fleet, as well as compliance with relevant regulations and policies. This position requires a combination of strategic planning, operational execution, and strong leadership skills to maintain and enhance the performance of the company's vehicle and trailer assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Management Strategy:
· Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive fleet management strategy in alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
· Continuously assess the fleet's composition, size, and utilization to optimize operational efficiency.
· Plan for fleet and trailer asset expansion or reduction as needed, based on business requirements and industry trends.
Vehicle Procurement and Disposal:
· Align with the Director of Fleet Operations to oversee the procurement process for new vehicles and trailers, including negotiations with suppliers, vehicle and trailer selection, and purchase or lease agreements.
· Assist in development and implementing a fleet and trailer replacement plan to ensure the timely disposal of older assets while maintaining optimal fleet and trailer age.
Maintenance and Repairs:
· Collaborate with various stakeholders to establish preventative maintenance schedules for both vehicles and trailers and ensure timely repairs to minimize downtime.
· Monitor maintenance and repair costs for assets to control expenses while ensuring safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
Compliance and Regulations:
· Stay current with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements, ensuring the fleet and trailer assets remain compliant at all times.
· Maintain accurate records of inspections, registrations, and other regulatory documentation for both vehicles and trailers.
Cost Management:
· Assist in developing and managing the budget for both vehicle and trailer assets, controlling expenses related to fuel, maintenance, repairs, acquisitions, and disposals.
· Implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining high-quality fleet and trailer operations.
Performance Analytics:
· Utilize data and analytics tools to monitor the performance of both vehicle and trailer assets, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and driver behavior.
· Identify trends and recommend improvements to enhance overall efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Team Leadership:
· Lead and mentor a team of fleet coordinators, and support staff, overseeing their day-to-day activities.
· Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the fleet department.
Vehicle and Trailer Asset Procurement Oversight:
· Collaborate with fleet team and oversee the vehicle and trailer asset procurement process to ensure efficient acquisition, including vehicle and trailer selection, negotiations, and contracts.
Emergency Response and Crisis Management:
· Assist in development and implementing emergency response plans to address accidents, breakdowns, or other critical situations involving company vehicles and trailers.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field or 5 years of equivalent experience in fleet management can substitute for a degree.
Proven experience in fleet management, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.
Strong knowledge of automotive technology, maintenance, and repair procedures for both vehicles and trailers.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and environmental standards related to fleet and trailer operations.
Proficient in data analysis and fleet management software.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Budget management experience is a plus.
