Job Description

Summary of Position:

As a Development Geologist III, you will play a critical role in the exploration and development of hydrocarbon reserves. Your expertise in geological interpretation, data analysis, and reservoir characterization will be essential in identifying and evaluating potential drilling locations, maximizing oil and gas recovery, and contributing to the growth and success of the company's operations.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough geological interpretation of subsurface data, including well logs, seismic surveys, core samples, and other relevant data. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geophysical, petrophysical, and engineering data to characterize reservoir properties accurately.
  • Identifies drillable prospects through analysis of geological data (well logs, porosity/permeability studies, core studies, etc.) and evaluates economic viability.
  • Utilize your expertise in stratigraphy, sedimentology, and basin analysis to identify drillable prospects and evaluate their economic viability. Assess exploration and development opportunities in both established plays and new prospects.
  • Conduct geological risk assessments for drilling and development activities. Provide recommendations for risk mitigation and cost-effective exploration and production strategies.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including geoscientists, engineers, land professionals, and management, to ensure effective communication and alignment of project objectives.
  • Examines aerial photographs, evaluates results of geophysical prospecting, and prepares surface and subsurface maps and diagrams depicting stratigraphic arrangement and composition of earth and probable deposits of gas and oil.
  • Recommends acquisition, retention, or release of property leases or contracts.
  • Estimates oil reserves in proven or prospective fields, and consults with petroleum engineers concerning drilling and production methods
  • Supports the development plan execution through support of the regulatory approval processes by preparing exhibits, technical reports, and testimony related to development plans. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geosciences and reservoir characterization technologies. Implement innovative approaches and best practices to enhance exploration and development success.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Proficiency in Kingdom geological modeling software and seismic interpretation tools
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex geological data sets effectively.
  • Proven track record of successful prospect identification and reserve estimation.
  • Familiarity with exploration and production practices and industry regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related field preferred.
  • 6 years oil and gas geological experience required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Work is performed at a CIVI location Tues-Thurs with an option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Schedule: traditional 40-hour workweek or alternative schedule of 9 hour works days M-Thurs and 4-hour workdays Friday.
  • Occasional travel required to the Civitas field locations.

Base Pay Range: $155,000 - $170,000
