Quality Assurance Manager

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading the facility’s food safety and quality programs within government regulations and company requirements. Responsible for the development, implementation, awareness, continual assessment and improvement of quality and food safety systems. Ensure compliance to organizational policies and all regulatory laws (FDA, USDA, HACCP, etc.) and acts as primary contact for regulatory agencies, quality and supplier audits. Manages all QA Techs and Food Safety Specialists.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develops and maintains company quality programs and product specifications for all products, ingredients, and packaging materials.
- Develops and analyzes statistical data and specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished products.
- Performs internal plant physical audits and external audit functions. May act as a liaison to auditors touring plant. Documents audit findings, prepare audit binders and assist with development of new policies and procedures following audits. Support operations in corrective and preventative actions. Support operations in embedding systemic corrective and preventative actions regarding internal and 3rd party audit deficiencies. Leads the facility in maintaining our SQF certification.
- Supports operations as it pertains to quality assurance in achieving production objectives, continuous improvement targets and metrics.
- Responsible for direct reports; all QA staff and Food Safety staff. Responsible for developing, training and performance management for direct reports.
- Provides training for all colleagues on product quality and other product specifications, GMPS (HACCP, SSOP, SQF and FDA) requirements.
- Maintains Hazard Analytical Critical Control Point (HACCP plan). Ensure daily preoperational inspections are conducted and documented. Manages and monitors Companies products Hold and Release program.
- Investigates and responds to customer complaints, regarding quality of products. Performs spoilage analysis of ingredients for finished goods. Provides statistical data on consumer complaints.
- Provide technical guidance on the purchase of raw materials, ingredients, and equipment.
- Develops, tracks, analyzes and communicates quality related key performance indicators.
Supplemental Job Functions:
- Recommends changes to current procedures that will enhance Quality Assurance Programs and reviews technical data to stay abreast of the latest trends and procedures in quality assurance industry.
- Oversee nutritional analysis and food labeling as required by the FDA and USDA.
- Monitor pest control maintenance.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Four plus years of experience in related areas including past supervisory experience.
- Food industry: 2 years (Required).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to listen and communicate with all (internal/external) levels of staff while maintaining a high degree of professionalism. Ability to present to small and large groups.
- HACCP certification and experience in supporting facility audits ( SQF).
- Working knowledge of microbial matter in food and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency in using programs such as TYME, and internet applications.
- A demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple projects, recommend and make positive changes to achieve goals.
Working Conditions:
- Working temperatures of 35-40 degrees.
- Must be able to stand and be on one's feet for extended periods of time.
