Mechanical Engineering Intern

Beacon Wellness Brands (“BWB”, formerly Clio) is a high-growth intimate wellness, beauty and personal care company headquartered in Newton, MA. The company has leading market positions in its respective categories and owns the #1 intimate wellness device brand in U.S. retail. BWB has distribution at nearly all major food, drug, and mass retailers and a growing e-commerce business. The company owns three main best-in-class brands and operates with a focus on quality, innovation, and speed-to-market. The business was founded in 2001. In 2021, private equity firm Yellow Wood Partners invested in Clio as its foundational investment in an intimate wellness platform – thus the formation of Beacon Wellness Brands.

This internship role will work closely with the Product Development Team to support development activities and projects related to intimate wellness and personal care products. This role will be based out of the Newton, MA office on a hybrid schedule (Tuesdays and Wednesdays in office). 

This is a paid internship running through the remainder of 2024. Start date is flexible based on candidates availability. 

Responsibilities (making an impact):

• Support the NPD (New Product Development) of new product innovations on product insights for technology, brainstorms, DFMEA, design for manufacturing, technical assessments.
• Assist in the development, design of test protocols for design/prototype validation.
• Communicate project status, timelines, and scope of work to product team.
• Help coordinate feasibility and validation processes with Asia-based team of Engineers, Quality Control as well as our in-house Industrial Design Team.
• Participate in VA/VE (Value Analysis/ Value Engineering) projects.
• Support Quality Control and Quality Assurance program to reduce defects, improve product performance, monitor customer reviews to identify quality concerns. Work closely with Lead Product Design Engineer and the QC team to implement corrective action plans.
• Assist with the creation, organization, and maintenance of documents relating to product data, specifications, and compliance documentation.
• Help generate product specifications for new purchase orders to be communicated to manufacturing partners and Asia office.
• Sample request coordination.
• Help with ad-hoc administrative and office related projects as needed.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills:

• Enrolled in undergraduate program (ideally third or fourth year) working towards a degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
• Proficiency or familiarity with SolidWorks
• Understanding of design for assembly and manufacturing
• Previous experience with 3D printing
• Passionate about products with a curiosity around health and beauty products.
• Strong collaborator with a positive attitude
• Good understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles.
• Excellent problem solver and think of solutions outside of the box
• Willingness to take on additional tasks outside primary role.
