THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Process Development Manager, the Process Development Intern will:

  • Complete technical projects to gain an understanding of the operations of a chemical plant and the chemical industry. Examples of recently completed projects include:
    • Decreasing energy use by altering production conditions
    • Identifying feasibility of utilizing new raw material suppliers
    • Reorganization of equipment to optimize energy use and production capabilities
  • Conduct small scale manufacturing operations laboratory experiments and pilot plant set-up
  • Analyze experiment results to prove feasibility and concisely report conclusions
  • Perform tasks requiring the application of standard chemical engineering techniques and procedures to build upon technical expertise
  • Design chemical systems, correct and update designs, and assist lead engineers with various project duties
  • Participate in several offsite visits to expand knowledge of manufacturing technologies, local history, and the Carus business
  • Deliver a presentation of accomplishments and experience to the leadership team

THE QUALIFICATIONS

The right candidate will be a self-directed, analytical, and organized individual who is naturally curious and shows strong attention to detail. Your credentials ideally include:

  • Undergraduate students currently enrolled in at least their sophomore year pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Previous hands-on experience working with machinery and scientific instruments
  • Communication skills that show an ability to be a collaborative team player with a can-do attitude
  • Strong work ethic and ability to meet project deadlines

THE PERKS

  • Each intern is partnered with a supervisor to guide their daily work and provide guidance and mentorship throughout the internship.

  • An end-of-year report out summarizing their work is completed to allow the interns the opportunity to present to business leaders.
