The Opportunity:

This Communications position will ensure clarity of voice and accuracy of content for Feeding America’s Government Relations work as part of our effort to advance policy priorities to end hunger in America. Responsibilities include overseeing content writing and editing across the government relations team to ensure accuracy and consistency in data and tone, working with subject matter experts to produce first draft content and copyedit final content for a range of products such as the weekly GR Update, letters to Capitol Hill and Administration officials, press statements from the Government Relations team, and grant and donor reports related to Government Relations work. The Feeding America National Organization has a hybrid work-from-home policy with an average of 2-3 days a week in the office. 

Salary Range: $66,000 to $85,000+ Based on Experience

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the writing and editing of department materials for multiple audiences, in coordination with the team’s subject matter experts, including a weekly GR update for our food bank network, government relations department press statements, op-eds, and letters to the editor, letters and documents to Congressional and Administration offices, talking points and speeches for CGRO speaking engagements, grant reports, and other department-wide materials as requested.
  • Manage department processes to ensure final written content meets high quality standards, including ensuring review processes are implemented and clear, deadlines are communicated and met, supporting team efforts to ensure facts related to how racial disparities impact communities are appropriately highlighted, and coordinating across departments and with external consultants as needed.
  • Manage the updating of department wide style guide and clearly articulate and incorporate Feeding America’s brand “voice” in all drafted internal, network and external-facing communications related to Government Relations.
  • Create, manage and implement communication plan deliverables to promote Government Relations initiatives and activities, including talking points, external channel content, pitches and communications toolkits.
    • Ensure all communication reflects the latest data and updated message research from advocacy, marketing and external partners and is updated in a timely fashion and continues to reflect the team’s needs and priorities.
    • Support government relations subject matter experts by providing timely, accurate resources for media and other speaking opportunities
  • Serve as content editor for Government Relations team on special projects or for cross-functional review committees. Edit e-newsletters, blogs, correspondence, project reports and presentation decks for consistency and style.
  • Serve as a communication liaison for various government relations-related projects, coordinating efforts with other department functions, including digital, media relations, research, brand, entertainment industry outreach, network communication and internal communication.
  • Provide support on special messaging projects related to specific target audiences.

Required Technical Competencies and Experience:
  • 5+ year professional communications experience; communications, publishing, journalism, or Capitol Hill / Administration office, or related field experience preferred.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, deadlines and high-volume, meticulous work within a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Superb editing and proofing skills and ability to translate complex concepts and ideas into materials and messages that are simple, clear and actionable.
  • Strong team player interested in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to produce the best result while possessing a willingness to learn from others. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to communicate with a variety of stakeholders effectively including across the organization, external vendors, and food bank network members.
