The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a part-time job opening for a Warehouse Worker for the Loudoun County Corps, located in Leesburg, VA.

Position Summary 

Under the general supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Warehouse Worker will assist with loading, unloading, and sorting donations; moving donations and other materials into the warehouse; assist in the set-up, clean up and break down of the warehouse.  He/she may also act in the capacity of a Truck Helper as needed.  Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver.  Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. May be required to come up front to run a cash register on an as needed basis.  Picking up and taking out trash, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, making sure buildings are secure, cleaning windows and mirrors, and performing minor building repairs. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of warehouse operations

Knowledge of inventory control techniques, as well as logistics knowledge

Knowledge of general office practices and procedures

Skill in paying attention to detail, particularly in the manipulation and recording of numbers.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing

Ability to handle several tasks at the same time and work well under pressure

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to lift scales, hand trucks, and dollies

Ability to load, unload, secure and protect goods

Education and Experience 

High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years of experience in sorting, receiving, storing, loading and unloading of materials in a warehouse or store setting, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements 

Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (over 50lbs.) materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.

Working Conditions 

Work is performed in a stock room, warehouse or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather. There are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.
