Job Description

General Function: Implements and maintains a project management function within the Center for Financial Planning, to advance the programmatic initiatives of the Knowledge for Practice and Workforce Development priorities of the Center for Financial Planning. Enable timely and on budget completion of project work designed to create a pipeline of diverse, sustainable talent, as well as advance the knowledge base of the profession while creating pathways to educate future professionals.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to determine and define project scope and deliverables to support Center activities focusing on Workforce Development and Knowledge for Practice
  • Create long- and short- term plans, including milestone targets, and ensure adherence to deadlines
  • Plan and designate project resources and serve as point of contact for teams to ensure correct resource allocation
  • Monitor progress on projects and regularly communicate project status to stakeholders and management team to ensure goal alignment
  • Maintain budget and reporting deliverables
  • Serve as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
  • Delegate tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to develop project plans including Center teams, PR, communications, and marketing and others as needed
  • Perform quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
  • Make effective decisions by adjusting schedules and targets on the project as resource needs or project budgets change
  • Supervise contractors, consultants, and other outside vendors as needed Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Background/Skills/Abilities Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, education, communications required;
  • Project Management certification or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred (CAPM, PMP, etc.)
  • Detail oriented, creative problem solver with a natural curiosity to challenge ways of thinking
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and people simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to work and collaborate as a part of a motivated, driven team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels within the corporate community, including but not limited to CEO and C-suite officials, HR directorates, and operations managers
  • Ability to make sound business decisions based upon data
  • High level of professionalism and ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with high energy and the ability to work independently, accurately and on schedule
  • Occasional travel may be necessary

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.
