Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Location

This position is assigned onsite at the Parnall office located in Jackson, MI  The selected candidates must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available to those who qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities 

The Senior Industrial Engineer will create, develop, and implement efficient utility and/or manufacturing systems, reducing costs while maintaining standards of operations. The incumbent will lead studies on the processes used by various departments and external industry practices to identify ways to streamline production processes and improve overall efficiencies and quality, while reducing costs using lean principals. Responsible for conducting complex time studies, analyzing data, and developing process improvement plans. Oversee the work of lower-level engineers and technicians on large projects and develop training and coaching programs for employees on new processes and procedures to increase productivity and quality while reducing waste and costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop ergonomic solutions to reduce injuries and improve employee comfort and productivity.   
  • Conduct time studies and work sampling to determine the most efficient methods of performing tasks and analyze the data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.  
  • Develop and implement systems to increase efficiency in all areas of production; includes but not limited to quality control, inventory management, employee productivity, and cost reduction.   
  • Develop and maintain management information, planning, and control systems and designs and oversee the implementation of large and moderately complex production processes.   
  • Identify and assess various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions.   
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; apply this knowledge to maintain the organization's competitive edge.  
  • Design, redesign, or enhance work areas and layouts so that awkward or uncomfortable positions, repetitive motions, and inefficient operations are reduced or eliminated.   
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other engineers to design cost-effective manufacturing layouts and build ergonomics for new product lines.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software  
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis and quality control procedures  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with aptitude to learn new software and systems  

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of experience in advanced Industrial Engineering roles.
  • (OR) Bachelor's degree in engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of experience in advanced Industrial Engineering roles.
