    Job description

    Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Consumers Energy knows job number one is to keep the lights on for customers. We are committed to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable energy to our customers 24/7.

    Location: This position is onsite at Trail Street located in Jackson, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

    General Summary of Job Responsibilities

    The Associate Lab Technician uses formal technical training, education, scientific principles, and hands-on experience to collect data and follow simple standardized procedures in order to produce data. The incumbent is expected to apply their experience and problem solving capabilities in order to ensure the quality and validity of the data produced. Limited problem solving and troubleshooting of processes and equipment are expected to be able to be performed; limited analytical work, process and procedure development, and optimization of standard process workflows. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Follow basic standard procedures to produce repeatable data either for direct submission to customers or for further analytical work
    • Limited direct customer interface on technician operated projects
    • Assist with process and procedure development, industry code interpretation and application
    • Ownership of work schedule to achieve daily, weekly, monthly productivity goals
    • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    • Ability to timely report examination data
    • Professional customer interface
    • Independent/ Self-motivated/ Sustained high productivity
    • Agility/ flexibility dependent upon varying department needs
    • Ability to maintain performance and composure during audits and technical certification testing

    Education & Experience
    • High School Diploma, or GED in Related studies with 0 - 2 years in previous experience performing routine technical work under standard procedures within an industry recognized quality system
