What Does an Entry-Level Cloud Engineer Do?

As an entry-level cloud engineer, you work as a junior engineer to learn more about cloud software and storage through hands-on training. Many of these roles are unpaid or paid internships rather than part-time or full-time employment. Your duties include tasks involved with cloud computing, like designing a cloud network or managing information stored in the cloud. You handle your responsibilities under the supervision of a skilled cloud engineer who trains you on the job. You need excellent computer, programming, and development skills and a willingness to learn how to work as a cloud engineer.

How to Get a Job as an Entry-Level Cloud Engineer

Most entry-level cloud engineers enter the field with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. You need to work for at least three years under the instruction of a senior-level cloud engineer to develop the skills and qualifications necessary to become a cloud engineer and work on your own. As an entry-level cloud engineer, you need experience working with cloud computing software beyond personal use, such as a prior internship or hands-on experience as part of your degree program. Some positions require that you have knowledge in specific programming languages, such as Java or C++.
