Volkert is seeking a Senior Traffic Project Manager to lead complex traffic engineering and transportation planning projects across Mississippi and Tennessee. In this role, you’ll drive impactful infrastructure solutions, mentor high-performing teams, and build lasting client relationships across DOT and municipal programs.

Candidates should be based in or open to relocating to Mississippi or Tennessee.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the delivery of traffic engineering and transportation planning projects, including traffic operations analysis, signal design and timing, corridor studies, safety evaluations, and long-range planning
  • Serve as the primary client point of contact, building and maintaining strong relationships with DOTs, municipalities, and key stakeholders
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans to ensure successful project delivery
  • Guide and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence
  • Oversee project financial performance, including forecasting, billing, and accounts receivable
  • Ensure quality assurance and control processes are followed and documented
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal development and client engagement
  • Collaborate with regional leadership to support strategic growth initiatives

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 15–20+ years of experience in traffic engineering and/or transportation planning
  • Proven experience managing complex projects, teams, and client relationships
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, HCS, and OpenRoads Designer
  • Strong knowledge of traffic engineering and transportation planning principles and practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)


Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience working with state Departments of Transportation (DOTs)
  • PTOE, PTP, and/or RSP certifications
  • Experience supporting business development, including proposals and client engagement
