The position will focus on product development efforts using both Additive Manufacturing (AM) and conventional manufacturing methods. This role supports sustainment activities for aerospace and other equipment components. At a high level, tasks include reverse engineering, CAD design, 2D drawing with focus on application of GD&T, analysis and simulation for selected components. As well, this engineer will be responsible for the overall development effort as a "Product Owner" following all product development process steps for the project and collaborate with various groups for manufacture and qualification test, through project completion. As well, this role is responsible for providing FEA analysis support to other team members. Other efforts include but are not limited to development and delivery of training materials as needed, participate in various technical challenges and team support activities. This role will be working in a highly agile environment and therefore, being a team player and having flexibility, adaptability, attention to detail are key to success.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. BS degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
2. 3+ years of experience in product development
3. 3+ years of experience with Computer Aided Design software, preferably SolidWorks
4. 3+ years of practical experience in 2D drawing generation, including application of GD&T
5. 2+ years of experience in simulation and FEA analysis using an industry standard analysis tool such as ANSYS
6. Practical experience reverse-engineering products/projects
7. Familiarity with various manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, extrusion, CNC machining, injection molding, thermoforming, etc
8. Attention to detail and organizational skills
9. Ability to perform extensive research, catalogue findings during development activities, and write reports for both internal and external use
10. Effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills with coworkers and clients at all levels.
11. Self-motivation with ability to work with minimal supervision
12. Successful collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
13. Excellent communication skills
14. Ability to work on US government contract
15. Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen
An R2 must meet all R1 minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below.
1. 6+ years of experience in related field
2. 5+ years of experience using CAD, preferably SolidWorks
Preferred Qualifications:
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
1. 5+ years of experience performing FEA analysis using ANSYS to include static and dynamic analysis
2. Experience with Additive Manufacturing, including print file generation
3. Experience with failure analysis, root cause determination and corrective action
4. Experience with Model Based Definition generation
5. M.S. Degree in engineering
