Job description

Mechanical Engineer/Designer

WeatherTech is seeking a well-qualified Mechanical Engineer/Designer who is passionate about conceptualizing and fully designing products.

As a Mechanical Engineer/Designer, you will

  • Develop and deliver engineering output files to print prototyped 3D parts while considering optimal design aesthetics and cost-efficiency
  • Use 3D CAD modeling skills such as advanced surfacing, part modeling, and assembly to design new product lines across many new vehicle applications
  • Design products using CAD, and consult with engineering and manufacturing teammates to ensure that designs are feasible
  • Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function
  • Record and evaluate testing data, altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance, and efficiency standards
  • Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing physical assistance when required
  • Research competitor products quarterly and collaborate with product development team to generate ideas for making our products the best ones on the market
  • Calculate cost estimates for final product designs, and release reports to supervisors, incorporating costs of labor, material, delivery and overhead
  • Attend weekly team meetings to provide progress reports, obtain updates on colleagues’ progress, strategize on steps for following week and acquire information about projected emerging product lines
  • Create and submit designs to the model shop for rapid prototype print and build
  • Collaborate with the product development team and other departments to modify manufacturing drawings for various components and assemblies
  • Track all work related to design, from concept to production for projects assigned
  • Collaborate with the product development team, supporting all aspects of product development including reliability testing, product qualification, and product design verification
  • Keep work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Communicate clearly and work as part of a team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 4-7 years of experience designing and engineering products
  • Expert knowledge in 3D CAD (Solidworks or UG NX preferred)
  • Experience or working knowledge of aluminum and plastic extrusions, thermoforming, sheet metal stamping, and machining
  • A high knowledge of part design and injection molding
  • FEA experience, a plus
  • Able to demonstrate creativity with examples of work
  • Provide meticulous attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
  • Be knowledgeable and have an interest in the automotive industry
  • Experience with consumer products, a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with external contacts as well as internal departments within the company
  • Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Authorized to work in the United States
