Job description

Mechanical Engineer / Designer

Location: Foley, AL 36535 Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Work Model: Onsite Hours: 40 hours/week

Overview

System One is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Designer to support industrial projects from concept through installation. This role will focus on developing detailed mechanical and structural designs, producing fabrication-ready drawings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution in active industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical and structural design packages from concept through construction and installation
  • Produce fabrication-ready drawings including:
    • Dimensions and tolerances
    • Weld symbols
    • Material specifications
    • General and detailed notes
  • Incorporate field measurements, as-built conditions, and constructability considerations into design work
  • Support layout development and equipment integration within active industrial facilities
  • Coordinate directly with engineers, fabricators, and site personnel to resolve design, installation, and fit-up challenges
  • Participate in site visits, field verification, and construction/start-up support as required
  • Contribute to internal design standards, quality assurance processes, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Experience in industrial mechanical design; experience in steel or aluminum manufacturing environments strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of fabrication practices, welding standards, and industrial materials
  • Proficiency with mechanical design and drafting tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate, and fabrication-ready drawing packages
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering teams, contractors, and plant personnel
