Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a junior to mid-level Design Engineer to join our Highways Engineering team in Hamilton, NJ!
As part of our growing team with a backlog full of exciting infrastructure design projects, you'll have the ability to work on an array of opportunities, of varying size and complexity, and collaborate in a dynamically changing landscape with internal stakeholders and external clients creating an invigorating career opportunity.
Our team of experts have completed projects in both urban and rural settings, ranging from minor upgrades to multi-million-dollar corridor improvements on some of the most iconic transportation facilities in the country. You'll apply engineering fundamentals in technical support of project design teams across a range of projects encompassing roadways, interchanges, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, traffic signals, pavement markings, signing, safety improvements, maintenance and protection of traffic, and guide rail/ barrier design. You'll work in an engaging office setting to compliment both team and independent work, as well as have the opportunity to do field work, observe projects in construction, and interact with clients.
Responsibilities
  • Apply broad knowledge of principles and practices specifically related to roadway engineering.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques and principles, to develop designs, reports, presentation materials, and other elements necessary for project success.
  • Research design options and apply code provisions/standards.
  • Interpret drawings, often involving multiple disciplines, for specific projects.
  • Submit concept designs and work through approval processes such as obtaining agency permits.
  • Design complete projects, working with senior engineers and planners, to create solutions that meet or exceed client needs.
  • Perform engineering calculations and create estimates.
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Meet schedule, budget, and quality goals set by project managers.
  • Attend meetings and present specific components of assignments.
  • Assist with proposal development for professional services.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and colleagues.
  • Work fluently in AutoCAD C3D and MicroStation and create plans, 3D CADD models, etc.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • 1+ years of transportation design experience required.
  • EIT (Engineer In Training) Certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD and other transportation publications.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Possess a strong work ethic, good communication skills, attention to detail, and exhibit an eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
