Job description
The Redfern Arts Center Technical Director is responsible for overseeing all technical and production supports, including supervision and training of tech an student crews, while assuring compliance with safety protocols and standards, and preservation of our facilities and equipment. This position reports to the Redfern Artistic Director.
Duties/ResponsibilitiesTechnical Director for Events (60%)
Serve as Technical Director for Redfern Presenting Series Events. Hire and supervise additional technical staff as needed. Oversee preparation, load-in, rehearsal, performance, and load-out for professional touring productions as part of the Redfern Arts Center Presenting Series
Serve as Technical Director for Music Department events that take place in the Main Theatre, or that require additional technical support in the Alumni Recital Hall or special classroom events, including setup, running, and strike of the events. Ensure equipment and technology in the Alumni Recital Hall are reset for classroom needs following each performance event.
Assist the Department of Theatre and Dance's Technical Director with productions as part of the Academic Year. Assist in the area of light, sound, and video in productions, including student training in coordination with the Department's Technical Director.
Coordinate with Redfern Artistic Director/Program Manager on all rental client events. Serve as primary point of contact for technical and facility needs for all rental events in the Redfern Arts Center.
Supervision (15%)
Hire, train, schedule, and supervise Redfern crews in all areas of theatrical production, including appropriate safety procedures.
Work with Music department to ensure safe handling of all musical instruments and equipment and train students to comply with safety protocols.
Responsible for direct, hands-on supervision of the Redfern student staff and equipment throughout the production process.
Facility Maintenance for Assigned Spaces (20%)
Monitor the condition of lighting, sound, rigging, and other theatrical equipment in the Main Theatre, Alumni Recital Hall, and Wright Theatre.
Perform preventative maintenance, request repair or replacement as required, and recommend and carry out equipment upgrades.
Maintain inventories of all equipment.
Maintain supplies and expendables.
Complete appropriate risk assessments for each production to ensure compliance with health codes and regulations.
Other (5%)
Complete purchases as needed for Presenting Series and rental events.
Attend staff meetings, participate in staff retreats/professional development, and strategic planning.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and five to seven years progressively responsible technical/events coordination.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated success in student employee recruitment, development, and supervision related to events management and technical support.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work; successful project management experience.
Sound engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with KSC/USNH programs and policies (safety, procurement, events management, scheduling)
Experience as a performer (actor, musician) or teacher of music or theatrical performance at the secondary or postsecondary level.

Compensation Pay Range:
