Job description

Tax Reviewer & Client Educator

Are you a strong tax preparer or reviewer who enjoys clean, accurate work—and explaining it clearly—without getting pulled into endless meetings or client chaos?

At Tax Sherpa, you’ll focus on reviewing returns for accuracy, communicating insights through concise video walkthroughs, and working within a structured tax strategy system—without being asked to sell, network, or manage a book of business.

What This Role Actually Looks Like

This is a review + communication role, not a sales or client management position.

You’ll spend most of your time:

  • Reviewing returns for accuracy and completeness
You’ll review Individual, S-Corp, and Partnership returns prepared by our team, ensuring numbers tie out, forms are correct, and filings align with the intended strategy.

  • Recording clear video walkthroughs for clients
Instead of live meetings, you’ll explain returns via short, structured screen-share videos. Clients can watch, understand, and move forward—without back-and-forth calls.

  • Working within a defined tax strategy framework
You won’t be expected to “figure everything out from scratch.” We use structured approaches to tax planning. Your role is to apply them consistently and flag anything that needs deeper review.

  • Escalating edge cases (not solving everything yourself)
When something falls outside the standard framework, you’ll flag it for higher-level review. You are not expected to be the final authority on every complex scenario.

What This Role IS NOT

Most firms ask new hires to be "Rainmakers" while also doing the work. We think that’s a recipe for burnout and sloppy work.

  • Not a rainmaker role
No sales. No networking. No “bring your own book.”

  • Not meeting-heavy
Most client communication is asynchronous via Loom. Meetings are rare and purposeful.

Not a “figure it all out alone” environment

  • We value consistency and systems. You’ll have checklists, playbooks, and clear escalation paths.

Who This Role Is a Great Fit For

You’ll do well here if you:

  • Have 3–7+ years of experience preparing or reviewing tax returns (1040, 1120S, 1065)

  • Care about clean, accurate work and catching inconsistencies

  • Can explain tax concepts clearly in plain English

  • Are comfortable recording short Loom-style videos

  • Prefer focused work over constant meetings

  • Like using checklists, systems, and defined processes

Important:
You do not need to be a high-level tax strategist on day one.
If you’re solid technically, communicate well, and are coachable, we can train the rest.

CPA or EA is great, but practical competence matters more.

How We Work

  • Location: Remote within the U.S., or in‐office at our Atlanta location (Chamblee/Tucker area).

  • Advisory-driven firm (we plan first, then implement through returns)

  • Clients are small business owners and W-2 earners who value strategy

  • Quiet, focused environment with clear expectations and minimal noise

Our Hiring Process (So There Are No Surprises)

We’re serious about quality, so our process is designed to filter for people who actually love and can do the work at a high level.

  • Short application and a few role‐specific questions.

  • Technical test: a focused case study where you review a return, identify issues, and record a short video explaining your recommendations.

  • Conversation with the hiring manager about fit, expectations, and your long‐term goals.

If you’re looking for a place where you can do deep tax work, avoid the constant client grind, and help ambitious business owners keep more of what they earn, we’d like to talk.

Why You’ll Believe in Tax Sherpa

Most firms focus on filing the past. We focus on shaping the future.

The work you do here isn’t just compliance—it helps business owners keep more of what they earn and make better decisions going forward.
We care about:

  • Accuracy

  • Clear thinking

  • Continuous improvement

Not:

  • Office politics

  • Face time

  • Or who stays online the longest
