The CMIO will also be responsible for building and leading a physician and clinical liaison team and training function. He/she will serve as the clinical informatics leader overseeing the clinical informatics team of nursing and physicians professionals across the enterprise in support of organizational objectives.
Builds relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, medical records professionals and other patient care providers to develop an understanding of their workflows, and facilitates the development and use of the clinical information system to assist these personnel in managing their workflows. Facilitates the design of clinical workflows that integrate with technology to promote efficiency, and assists with implementation of these workflows.
Leads SSH's efforts to address colleague burnout through optimization of EHR functionality, efficiency, and usability.
Participates as a member of SSH leadership and steering teams to represent the needs and requirements of the provider community while balancing those needs with the resources and capabilities of South Shore Health.
Partners with the Chief Digital and Information Officer and other senior leaders to evaluate and facilitate adoption of emerging clinical technologies to enhance care provided at South Shore Health, improve quality and safety, and enhance patient and provider satisfaction.
Serves as co-chair for various clinical advisory groups that provide broad-based input into the design and function of the clinical information systems. Actively participates in IT steering, advisory, and implementation committee meetings. Leads various clinical initiatives in partnership with operational sponsors.
- Aggregates and analyzes data on an ongoing basis to identify changes that will lead to improved performance and a reduction in errors. Conducting data analytics research and reporting findings to other executives, government agencies, or scholarly institutions when necessary.
Collects data to monitor the stability of existing processes, identifies opportunities for leading and sustaining clinical improvement and supports organization-wide initiatives focused on data integrity and data governance.
Collaborates across functions to proactively assess any potential clinical systems/workflow impact resulting from changes in supply chain operations.
Works in partnership with IT design and implementation teams to translate the organization's requirements into specifications for clinical systems that support patient care, provider efficiency, and health system operations. Acts as the primary liaison with medical staff leadership regarding technology issues. Proactively identifies potential issues, provides options for resolution, and communicates such with the physician community. Promotes technology solutions and facilitates communication plans to help manage change for the organization. Works effectively with software vendors and consultants during implementation and support activities.
Works with Chief Clinical Officer, Chief Strategy Officer and CDIO to build and enhance interfaces/integration with other provider organizations such as primary care groups, integrated delivery systems, etc to create more seamless accessibility across EMRs.
Oversees and provides leadership, mentoring, effective supervision and personnel management of the clinical informatics staff and resources working on clinical training and informatics initiatives.
- Reviews medical informatics trends and regulatory requirements impacting the delivery of patient care, with support from the Compliance Department and the Office of the General Counsel, as appropriate.
Provides innovative approaches, proposes technical and application implementation strategies and assists in the development of strategic plans for clinical information systems. Provides guidance and oversight as it relates to medical education and research. Maintains an active clinical practice. Approximately 80% of the role will be dedicated to CMIO duties
Qualifications
- Proven track record of Epic EMR implementation and optimization of analytics
- Preferred Experience: 3-5 years of clinical informatics experience, and at least 3 years of direct clinical care
- Required License/Registration/Certification: Board certification in any clinical specialty, Valid US Medical License
- Preferred License/Registration/Certification: Clinical Informatics board certification
- Preferred Experience managing a team of Clinical Informatics professionals
- Proven ability managing projects across a health system.
Education
- M.D. or D.O. required
- Advanced training in medical management and informatics preferred
