Job description

Location: Project Site (full-time on-site, Buffalo, NY)

Reports To: Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager

Status: Full-time, on-site, exempt

Salary Range: $80,000 – $115,000 (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

The Project Engineer is the technical engine of the project team, owning submittal review, RFI coordination, BIM/MEP clash resolution, document control, and field-engineering support. The PE works closely with the Superintendent and PM to ensure design intent is preserved in the field and that procurement, fabrication, and installation are technically aligned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the submittal process in Procore: log, route for review, track turnaround times, and close out; maintain submittal register against the spec.
  • Manage the RFI process: draft, log, route, follow up, and incorporate responses into field and shop drawings.
  • Lead BIM/MEP coordination in Autodesk Revit and Navisworks: support clash detection, trade interface coordination, and constructability review.
  • Support constructability reviews at 30%, 60%, 90%, and 100% design milestones; document and track comments and dispositions.
  • Maintain drawing and specification control: current sets, addenda, ASIs, bulletins, and as-built markups.
  • Support cost estimating at design milestones (AACE Class 4 through Class 2) with quantity takeoffs and trade input.
  • Support buyout: scope sheets, bid tabulations, technical scope reviews, and subcontract exhibit preparation.
  • Coordinate 3rd-party testing and inspection submittals; track inspection reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs) to closure.
  • Compile and maintain commissioning documentation, equipment cut sheets, O&M manuals, warranties, training records, and record drawings.
  • Track long-lead equipment from PO release through fabrication, shipping, and delivery; flag schedule risks.
  • Support change order pricing with quantity takeoffs, schedule analysis, and technical justification.
  • Attend weekly job meetings, design coordination meetings, and OAC meetings; document outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of project engineering experience on commercial, institutional, or industrial construction projects.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (current or obtained within 60 days).
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Revit and/or Navisworks, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and civil drawings, specifications, and BIM coordination models.
  • Strong technical writing, document control, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain facility identification.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience on a SUNY, ESD-funded, or NYS public works project.
  • Mission-critical, data center, or large institutional/higher-ed construction experience.
  • Hands-on Navisworks clash detection and BIM coordination meeting facilitation experience.

Working Conditions

Full-time on-site at the project location. Combined office trailer and active construction environment. Standard 40 work week.
