This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

This posting is for a position as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist with the Biomedical Engineering Department for Central Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Initial placement will be with the Biomedical support team based out of the Victoria General (VG) site, though future moves between teams and locations are possible in order to respond to clinical support demands and trends. As a member of the Biomedical team, travel and coverage of the Central Zone may be expected on an occasional basis.

Under the supervision of the Manager, Biomedical Engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Technologist provides support for medical technology by repairing, maintaining and calibrating life support and other medical devices as well as maintaining medical computers and networks. The Biomedical Engineering Technologist also assists in the training of physicians, nurses, therapists and other technical staff as well as performing safety performance and routine inspections on electronic, electrical and mechanical equipment and systems.

Qualifications

•Grade 12 plus successful completion of a two-year course in Electronics Engineering Technology (accredited diploma) required.
•Must be registered or eligible to be registered with TechNova as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) within two (2) years of hire.
•Registration with the ACI as a Certified Dialysis Technologist (CDTc) or CBET certification is required for achievement of step 5 of the pay scale for this position.
•Travel to other sites or throughout the province is required. Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
•Valid Passport required for duration of employment.
•Must have working knowledge/training of electronics with the ability to understand the operation and have manual skills required to repair, calibrate, perform safety, performance routine inspections on electronic, electrical, mechanical and optical equipment, devices, systems and instruments.
•Effective communication skills.
•Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Permanent, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information

$26.9545 - $36.0776 hourly
