Job description

Our client, a luxury hotel located at the Hyde Park area of Chicago, IL, is seeking a Server Assistant to support our front-of-house team in delivering an exceptional dining experience to our guests. The goal is to enhance guest satisfaction by ensuring tables are properly set, cleared, and reset in a timely manner, and by assisting servers throughout each shift. As a Server Assistant, you will perform a combination of bussing, running, and resetting duties to keep service flowing smoothly during all meal periods.

Server Assistant Duties & Responsibilities

Clear, clean, and reset tables promptly between guests to maintain efficient table turnover.

Run food and beverages from the kitchen and bar to the correct tables in a timely manner.

Refill water glasses, replenish bread and condiments, and pre-bus tables during the meal.

Assist servers with side work, including stocking service stations, polishing silverware and glassware, and folding napkins.

Carry trays of dirty dishware to the dish pit and assist with sorting and stacking.

Maintain cleanliness of the dining room, service stations, and back-of-house corridors throughout the shift.

Restock linens, paper goods, and beverage supplies as needed.

Respond to guest requests politely and direct more complex needs to the appropriate server or manager.

Communicate clearly with servers, hosts, and kitchen staff to support a smooth flow of service.

Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling of food, beverages, and cleaning chemicals.

Report breakage, spills, and maintenance issues to supervisors promptly.

Server Assistant Qualifications and Experience

Previous experience as a Server Assistant, Busser, Food Runner, or in a relevant restaurant or hotel food and beverage role preferred.

Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and lift trays of up to 30 lbs.

Customer service orientation and a friendly, professional demeanor.

Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Team-oriented with reliable communication skills.

Fluent in English or Spanish.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
