Role Summary
We are seeking a full-time Tax Manager with strong experience in 1040 review, tax planning for business owners, and exposure to trust, estate, and international individual compliance and planning. This role will serve as a technical leader and reviewer, manage seasonal and full-time staff on individual return preparation, and help build a scalable, quality-focused individual tax function. This is a highly visible position ideal for someone who wants to own and lead a key function in a growing firm.
Key Responsibilities
Review and finalize ~300 high-net-worth individual returns annually, many involving K-1s, Schedules C/E/F, stock compensation, and flow-through planning
Review ~20 trust and estate tax returns (Form 1041) and related filings
Review or support preparation of international compliance forms including FBAR, 5471, 5472, 8938, GILTI
Serve as a go-to resource for individual tax planning for business owners and families, including year-end planning and estimated payment strategies
Supervise and mentor staff and seasonal preparers (including remote contractors)
Coordinate with other Tax Department leaders on workload, deadlines, and firm initiatives
Collaborate with the GovCon and Accounting departments to deliver cross-functional planning and compliance
Assist in staff development, documentation of review procedures, and quality control initiatives
Qualifications
CPA license (required)
7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting
Demonstrated expertise in 1040 review and related tax planning
Solid experience with trust & estate returns and rules (Form 1041)
Familiarity with international individual compliance (FBAR, 5471, 5472, etc.)
Strong communication skills; ability to lead review conversations and client interactions
Comfortable working in a hybrid or remote team environment
Experience with CCH Axcess Tax, ProSystems Engagement, and Canopy is a plus
