ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules.
  • Complies with all recipes. portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies and procedures.
  • Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations.
  • Ensures proper food temperatures are maintained and food is stored correctly.
  • Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat.
  • Performs opening, closing and side work duties as instructed and according proper guidelines.
  • Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food items such as: knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, ovens, etc.
  • Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, guests, administrators and managers.
  • Learn and develop alongside our culinary team.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school education is desired.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for this role.
  • Minimum of 1 year previous experience in back-of-the-house foodservice position or enrolled/completed a culinary program preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi task and work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to read and understand recipes and food abbreviations.
  • Pleasant and friendly. Ability to communicate with others.
  • Must be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays and special events.
  • Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for working in the kitchen.
  • Attentive and detailed oriented.
  • Capable of following procedures and taking directions.
  • Basic math skills; ability to understand, calculate and follow recipe measurements and proportions.

     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to chop, mix, blend, whip etc. a variety of foods and liquids. 
  • Physical role requiring heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling and lifting up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to reach up to 6-7 feet, twist at waist, bending and squatting.
  • Ability to handle or operate dangerous kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to move rapidly and coordinate multiple orders.
  • Standing and walking for entire length of shift.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Kitchen environment – noise levels may be moderate to high.
  • Works frequently in a hot and damp environment.
  • In contact with sharp knives, slicers, boiling liquids, hot pans, etc.
  • Hazards include, but are not limited to, cuts from broken glass, metal cans, scalds and burns, slipping and tripping.
  • Frequently immerses hands in water.

 

HOW TO RISE ABOVE THE REST

  • Currently possess a Food Safety Certification.
  • Culinary Education Degree or equivalent.
  • Strong communication, proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the culinary field with a focus on high volume production.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, proper food handling techniques, temperatures and food safety.
  • Knowledge of basic butchering, food allergies, seasonal ingredients and menus.
  • Knowledge of modern and classical cooking, including specialized culinary techniques and measurements, and can propose menu items.
