Location

Graduate Roosevelt Island is part of the Graduate Hotels collection located on the Cornell Tech Campus on Roosevelt Island, serving as the island's first hotel and marking the brand's debut in New York City. Architecturally designed by internationally renowned design firm, Snøhetta, and interior design from Graduate Hotels' in-house team, the hotel blends Old School and New Age, taking inspiration from both the rich history of Roosevelt Island and the future of technology that the Cornell campus embodies. Overview

We are looking for talented Servers for Anything At All with evening and weekend availability.

Servers are responsible for all aspects of the guest experience at the table, including greetings, menu sales, table maintenance, overall guest satisfaction and happiness, fond farewells, and maintaining a general command of the food and beverage menu. You will work to provide impeccable hospitality to each of our clients, working specifically with each individual need to curate the best experience possible.

Servers will also work with floor management to ensure superior guest service throughout service.

Responsibilities

Service
  • Maintains warmth and hospitality in all correspondence with guests
  • Complete opening and closing side work checklist for shift daily
  • Help guests make selections from food and beverage menus, suggest courses and pairings, explain any off-menu dishes, and answer all food preparation questions
  • Take orders from guests, ensuring 100% accuracy when entering orders into POS
  • Run food to guests and keep on top of table maintenance
  • Check identification of all customers who appear under 30 to verify they are of legal drinking age prior to serving them
  • Communicate with the kitchen to manage the timing of courses, any guest feedback, etc.
  • Deal with guest complaints by finding a way to say yes; involve the manager on duty as needed
  • Process guest payments in a timely, accurate manner
  • Process financials on a shift-by-shift basis, including submitting accurate cash sales
  • Accurately report cash and credit card tips and contribute to the tip pool as applicable
  • Maintain sanitation to DOH standards; Keep work area clean and organized
  • Inform supervisor on duty immediately of any DOH or OSHA/workplace safety violations
  • Update knowledge and skills by participating in staff training opportunities
  • Be a team player-support and assist your fellow team members whenever possible
  • Complete other duties as assigned by management
  • Communicate all necessary guest information with the team to set everyone up for success (allergy alerts, VIPs, special requests, celebrations, etc.)

Menu Knowledge
  • Maintain an understanding of the food menu and have the ability to clearly describe our offerings
  • Have a grasp of the beverage program and be able to summarize our philosophy and identify our different offerings
  • Understand different types of allergy restrictions and help communicate potential issues to floor and kitchen staff

Station Set Up
  • Set up dining room according to step-by-step guide and specifics laid out in the service manual
  • Work with the rest of the service team to ensure that the dining room is fully set up in time, offering help to teammates as necessary

Qualifications

  • Requirements
    • 2-years minimum experience in a restaurant or similar customer-facing capacity
    • Bachelor's degree or certification in a Hospitality related field or equivalent experience
    • TIPS certification preferred
    • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding
    • Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work that restaurant cooks do is both physically and mentally demanding. They are on their feet much of the time. Cooks typically work about forty hours a week. However, because the restaurant serves the public and is open seven days a week, cooks may work longer, irregular hours.
