Department: Tax Services Reports To: Tax Manager / Tax Partner Location: Rochester, NY (Hybrid work environment)
Position Summary
As a Senior Tax Advisor at our mid-size regional public accounting firm, you'll take the lead on complex tax engagements and serve as a trusted advisor to our diverse client base - including privately held businesses, professional service firms, and high-net-worth individuals. This position blends hands-on tax compliance and planning work with client relationship management and staff mentoring.

Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Review
- Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and trusts.
- Manage multiple engagements from planning through completion while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax regulations and filing requirements.
Tax Planning & Advisory
- Provide proactive, strategic tax planning and consulting for clients across a variety of industries.
- Research and resolve complex tax issues and communicate findings clearly to clients and firm leadership.
- Identify opportunities for tax efficiency and risk mitigation.
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, building trust through responsive service and sound advice.
- Participate in client meetings and present tax planning strategies in an understandable, actionable way.
- Support the firm's business development by identifying client needs and cross-service opportunities.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of tax associates and interns.
- Provide guidance and on-the-job training to help staff build technical and professional skills.
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented firm culture that emphasizes collaboration and continuous learning.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required. Master's in Taxation or related field a plus.
- Licensure: CPA license (or CPA eligibility) strongly preferred.
- Experience: 3-6 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, preferably with exposure to mid-market and privately held clients. Experience with the following industries is preferred: Manufacturing, Construction, Real Estate
- Technical Proficiency:
- Experience with major tax preparation software (e.g., CCH Axcess, UltraTax, ProSystem fx).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws, GAAP, and business entity structures.
