Job description
The Medical Assistant / Patient Support professional is responsible for providing administrative and patient-facing support to ensure efficient coordination of healthcare services and positive patient experiences. This role assists with patient communication, appointment coordination, intake activities, documentation support, care coordination, and administrative healthcare operations in a remote environment.
The Medical Assistant / Patient Support specialist collaborates with providers, clinical teams, scheduling staff, and patients to support care delivery, maintain accurate records, and facilitate seamless patient services.
This is a fully remote position; however, applicants must currently reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the United States. Applications from individuals residing outside the United States will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Support amp; Care Coordination
Serve as a primary point of contact for patients regarding appointments, scheduling, and care coordination activities
Assist patients with intake procedures, registration updates, and demographic verification
Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, and provider communications
Support patient onboarding and telehealth scheduling activities
Respond to patient inquiries and escalate clinical concerns appropriately
Administrative amp; Clinical Support
Maintain patient records, documentation, and electronic health records (EHR) updates
Verify insurance information and assist with authorizations when applicable
Support prescription refill requests and care coordination workflows under established protocols
Assist with documentation preparation and administrative healthcare processes
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards
Scheduling amp; Operations
Schedule appointments and manage provider calendars
Coordinate patient reminders, follow-ups, and outreach activities
Track referrals, test results, and care documentation workflows
Support operational reporting and patient service metrics
Compliance amp; Quality
Ensure adherence to HIPAA requirements and internal policies
Maintain accurate records and documentation standards
Support quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction programs
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Medical Assistant certification preferred
1–3 years of experience in medical assisting, patient services, healthcare administration, scheduling, or clinical support
Knowledge of healthcare terminology and patient care workflows
Strong communication and customer service skills
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or athenaOne
Familiarity with telehealth workflows and patient scheduling systems
Experience in primary care, specialty care, home health, telemedicine, or behavioral health settings
Knowledge of insurance verification and referral coordination processes
Bilingual communication skills preferred
