Responsibilities

The Process Operator Apprentice will:

  • Monitor and operate plant equipment - including start-ups and shut-downsย 
  • Via Distributed Control Systems and/or panel board mounted instrumentsย 
    In the field, physical requirements include:ย 
  • Working indoors and outdoors (in all weather conditions)ย 
  • Standing, walking, climbing stairs and laddersย 
  • Working at heightsย 
  • Working in confined spaces (as needed)ย 
  • Working 12-hour rotating shifts (days and nights), if requiredย 
  • Lifting and moving loads of various weightsย 
  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment and/or work with Maintenance personnel on major repairsย 
  • Understand and follow written or verbal instructions and proceduresย 
  • Trouble shoot operational problemsย 
    Use computers to:ย 
  • Access procedures and other informationย 
  • Access and complete required trainingย 
  • Input/retrieve dataย 
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and company rules and policiesย 
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required (may include safety glasses, fire retardant coveralls, safety boots, hard hats, face shields, etc.)ย 
  • Perform housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain plant and equipment in a neat, orderly conditionย 
  • Be dependable (report to work when scheduled, be on time for work and be available for overtime, when needed)ย 
  • Exercise good judgmentย 
  • Show initiative (make good use of time and resources)ย 
  • Be a team playerย 
Qualifications
  • High School Diplomaย Must be at least 18 years of ageย 
  • ย Must be legally authorized to work in the United Statesย 
  • Must have a valid state motor vehicle driver's licenseย 

Training Requirements (after reporting to work):ย 

  • Complete a 2 - 3-year apprenticeship program that includes:ย 
  • Classroom (books, hands-on labs, tests) - this portion is done primarily on the apprentice's own timeย 
  • On-the-job trainingย 
  • On-going satisfactory performanceย 
  • Quarterly evaluations/feedbackย 
  • Maintain current status on all procedural and safety trainingย 

Job Requirementsย 

  • Minimum WorkKeys scores of:ย 
  • Applied Math - Operator 5ย 
  • Graphic Literacy- Operator 4ย 
  • Workplace Documents - Operator 5ย 
  • Applied Technology - no minimum required, but scores arestilla factor andreviewed by hiring managersย 
    Successful completion ofSelect Assessment for Manufacturingadministered by Talogyย
