Library Assistant
The position of a Library Assistant is available immediately at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist librarian in the administration of the campus library. Perform routine duties under the direct supervision of the librarian.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provide individual instruction and assistance to individual students or small groups in using library media center resources including computers and other equipment.
  2. Checkbooks in and out. Collect and record fines.
  3. Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.
  4. Request and schedule use of materials from other campuses.
  5. Prepare bulletin boards and displays and assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials.
  6. Maintain the library catalog as instructed by the librarian.
  7. Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.
  8. Receive and process new books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices. Shelve returned books, materials, and equipment.
  9. Perform routine maintenance and repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment. Arrange for repair at outside facilities as directed.
  10. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  11. Run the Circulation Desk.
  12. Supervise and monitor students as assigned and assist librarians and teachers to maintain appropriate student behavior and an orderly atmosphere.
  13. Maintain library operation in absence of the librarian.
  14. Assist in directing the work of volunteers and student aides.
  15. Run essential software applications.
  16. Learn and adapt to changing technologies.
  17. Assist teachers and students with technical support as part of the campus Tech Team.
  18. Answer phone calls and assist parents/students with library questions and tech support.
  19. Review and schedule library reservations, and technology requests when needed.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
  21. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Note: Not all applicants will be interviewed. Each applicant, application, and other available information will be considered in the screening process. Only those persons currently meeting all of the minimum requirements will be screened.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certificate:
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have one of the following:
  • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or a related area
  • Treasuring Our Paraprofessional Certificate

Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
Ability to shelve books following district cataloging system
Ability to work well with children
Effective, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Perform duties with minimum supervision
Ability to learn and use computerized systems
Ability to adapt to changes
EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard library equipment including imaging equipment; standard instructional equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with continuous interruptions. Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; regular overhead reaching and climbing ladders. Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds). Work inside; work alone; exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust. Normal office environment.
