Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification\r\nexists is to provide expert library support to librarians and branches\r\nthroughout the library system. Library Assistant\r\nIIs are assigned to a specific branch or division such as Extension Services or\r\nTechnical Services as their primary responsibility; however, they are also\r\nutilized to fill staff shortages throughout the library system. Major work responsibilities may include:\r\nperforming collection maintenance activities; providing support to small\r\nlibraries during staffing shortages; performing circulation duties; serving\r\npatrons and the public; maintaining facilities; and performing miscellaneous\r\nduties. Library Assistant IIs differ\r\nfrom Library Assistant Is in that they are expected to have a greater degree of\r\nknowledge as needed to fill in at branches with staff shortages or briefly\r\nmanage a small branch in the absence of a librarian. Library Assistant IIs differ from Librarians\r\nin that Library Assistant IIs are not responsible for programming. Library\r\nAssistant IIs work under the supervision of a Librarian.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of full-time,\r\ntechnical library experience at the level of a library assistant which includes\r\nshelving and shifting books, assisting patrons with directions or general\r\nlibrary services, checking books in and out, collecting fines and fees, cataloging,\r\nand using an automated library computer system.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education,\r\ntraining, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and\r\nabilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n

Applicants will be screened, qualified and ranked based on education and experience as shown on the application.
