This part-time position focuses on delivering outstanding service to guests of all ages, including assisting with circulation, answering questions, recommending materials, and helping with technology. You'll also engage in maintaining library collections, supporting outreach efforts, and assisting with various operational tasks that ensure our branch runs smoothly.

The role requires evening and weekend availability, strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to excellent customer service, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment. Reliable transportation and the ability to perform physical tasks, such as shelving and organizing, are necessary.

Responsibilities:

The Library Assistant Specialist provides excellent service to people of all ages. This position directly performs library service tasks including: circulation of materials, answering reference and reader's advisory questions, providing technology assistance, and assisting guests at the service desk.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma. Two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Is skilled in using computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office products, and troubleshooting equipment issues. Is familiar with electronic resources to aid in reference and reader's advisory assistance, programming, statistical reports, and communication. Learns new skills as they develop or are implemented.
  • Establishes and maintains an excellent working relationship with library staff in all departments, library guests, with volunteers, and within workgroups, respectful of diversity and all ages.
  • Must be able to work twenty (20) hours per week including evenings and weekends.

  • Sits, stands and/or walks for extended periods of time. Must have agility and strength necessary to effectively and safely reach up or down, stoop, stretch, and use step stools and ladders to retrieve and shelve materials, conduct programs, carry equipment, straighten facility, rearrange furniture under 50 pounds, shovel snow, etc.
  • Manipulates loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds over carpeted floors and carries materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Applicant must also be able to pass a background check.

Rate: Minimum $14.00 per hour

Pay Grade 3, non-exempt

24 hours/week

CBU Status: Bargaining Unit

Operating Hours:

  • Monday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 12:00 PM-8:00 PM
  • Wednesday-Thursday: 10:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • Friday-Saturday: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • Sunday: Closed
