What are Weekend Chefs?

Weekend Chefs are culinary professionals who typically work on Saturdays and Sundays, preparing and serving meals in restaurants, hotels, catering companies, or private settings. They may work part-time or full-time, depending on the employer's needs, and often handle busy periods when customer demand is highest. Weekend Chefs are responsible for menu planning, food preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring food safety standards are met. This role requires strong cooking skills, time management, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Chef, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Chef, you need solid culinary skills, experience in food preparation, and often a relevant food safety certification. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment, point-of-sale systems, and inventory management software is commonly required. Strong time management, teamwork, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for this fast-paced role. These competencies ensure high-quality meals, efficient kitchen operations, and excellent customer satisfaction during busy weekend service periods.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Chefs, and how can they be managed effectively?

Weekend Chefs often work during peak dining hours, which can lead to high-pressure environments and tight timelines. Managing multiple orders simultaneously and maintaining food quality are frequent challenges. To succeed, strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and effective communication with kitchen staff are essential. Many Weekend Chefs also collaborate closely with front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service, making teamwork and adaptability key assets.

Join One of Denver's Premier Private Club Culinary Teams

Glenmoor Country Club is a premier private club located in beautiful Cherry Hills Village, just minutes from Belleview and I-25. Known for exceptional hospitality, vibrant member events, and high-quality cuisine, Glenmoor offers a unique culinary environment where team members can grow their skills while working alongside a passionate and professional kitchen team.

We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary leadership team. This role is ideal for a strong kitchen leader who takes pride in their craft, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about developing others while maintaining high culinary standards.

This position serves as the first assistant to the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef and plays a key role in overseeing daily kitchen operations across all dining outlets, banquets, and special events.

During our clubhouse renovation, this role will help lead operations out of a mobile kitchen trailer, requiring flexibility, adaptability, and a strong, team-first approach in a dynamic environment.

This role is intended to support long-term kitchen leadership, with potential for continued year-round employment based on business needs and performance.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supervise and support kitchen staff by assisting with hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and performance management
  • Lead daily food production across all outlets and events, ensuring quality, consistency, and timely execution
  • Work alongside the culinary team during service to support operations and maintain standards
  • Enforce and maintain strict sanitation, cleanliness, and food safety standards
  • Ensure all recipes, portions, and presentation standards are consistently followed
  • Monitor kitchen performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and workflow
  • Assist with inventory, purchasing, and cost control to support financial goals and minimize waste
  • Collaborate with front-of-house leadership to ensure a seamless and high-quality member experience
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure proper use, care, and ongoing maintenance
  • Support menu execution and continuous improvement of food quality and consistency

Requirements

Schedule Expectations

This position is expected to work approximately 50 hours per week based on business needs. Evenings, weekends, and holidays are required.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team
  • Comprehensive understanding of food quality, presentation, consistency, and sanitation standards
  • Knowledge of food cost management, purchasing, inventory, and labor management
  • Ability to problem solve, make decisions, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations, cooking techniques, and equipment use
  • Ability to expedite service and step into any role in the kitchen as needed

Glenmoor Country Club operates in a non-tipping environment. Team members are compensated through hourly wages rather than gratuities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40-50 lbs
  • Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Work in one of Denver's most beautiful private club settings while building your culinary leadership career alongside a great team.
