Job Title:

Solid Waste Management Specialist / Coordinator


Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Solid Waste Management professional to oversee waste collection, disposal, recycling, and environmental compliance activities. The ideal candidate will support waste reduction initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, coordinate with vendors and government agencies, and improve operational efficiency in waste management programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily solid waste collection, transportation, recycling, and disposal operations.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and waste management policies.
  • Coordinate with contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies regarding waste management activities.
  • Develop and implement waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability programs.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and site evaluations for waste handling and disposal facilities.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and operational records related to waste management activities.
  • Analyze waste generation data and recommend process improvements.
  • Support budgeting, procurement, and vendor management for waste management services.
  • Investigate customer complaints and resolve waste service issues.
  • Ensure proper handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials.
  • Train staff on waste segregation, safety procedures, and environmental best practices.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of solid waste management practices and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with recycling programs and landfill operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, reporting tools, and data analysis.
  • Understanding of OSHA, EPA, or local environmental compliance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in solid waste management, environmental services, or sanitation operations.

Preferred Experience:

  • Municipal or government waste management projects.
  • Sustainability and recycling program implementation.
  • Vendor and contract management experience.
  • GIS or waste tracking software knowledge is a plus.
