Position Summary
The Vice President of Operations serves as a senior member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta (BGCGA) Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and is the organizational authority responsible for the integrated delivery of youth-serving programs and services across all Club locations. Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Business Operations, this role provides strategic and operational oversight to a six-director portfolio spanning program quality, Teen services including workforce development, athletics, human resources, facilities/operations, and support services.
This leader ensures that BGCGA's Future READY framework is activated with fidelity and consistency across a multi-site, multi-county footprint serving thousands of young people annually. The VP of Operations translates the organization's mission, strategy, and annual plan into measurable operational outcomes, ensuring rhythm, rigor, and results are embedded at every level of service delivery.
As an ELT member, the VP of Operations is a trusted thought partner to the CEO and EVP, a collaborative peer to the VP of Development, and a decisive, mission-centered leader who champions a culture of excellence, accountability, and belonging across the organization.

Director of Athletics
Sports and recreation programming, athletic leagues and events, health and wellness initiatives, facility use for athletic activities, and staff coaching
Director of Support Services
Food service, member enrollment and data integrity, grant compliance, outcomes reporting coordination, and ancillary services supporting Club operations
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities1. Strategic Leadership & ELT Contribution
- Serve as a full and active member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy, annual planning, budget development, and culture-setting
- Translate the BGCGA strategic plan and Future READY framework into operational objectives, KPIs, and departmental goals across all six direct report areas
- Partner with the VP of Development to align program initiatives and quality metrics with grant requirements and donor outcomes
- Partner with the finance department to ensure departmental budgets are responsibly managed, variances are explained, and financial targets are met
- Present operational performance data, risk items, and strategic recommendations to the EVP and CEO on a defined reporting cadence
- Represent BGCGA in community partnerships, coalitions, and external engagements as directed by the CEO or EVP
2. Multi-Site Program Quality & Delivery
- Ensure consistent, high-quality implementation of BGCA Core Program Areas โ Academic Success, Health & Wellbeing, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness โ across all 12+ Club locations
- Oversee the Director of Programs to maintain BGCA program quality standards, including NYOI and BGCA Assessment compliance
- Champion the Life & Workforce Readiness (LWR) framework as a strategic differentiator for BGCGA and ensure it is embedded in programming at every level
- Monitor program enrollment, attendance, and outcome data monthly and take corrective action when sites fall below performance thresholds
- Support the integration of Industry Clubs and innovative teen pathway programming as a signature BGCGA initiative
3. Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Set, communicate, and enforce operational standards across all Club sites, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as BGCA national standards
- Oversee the Director of Operations to ensure facilities are safe, well-maintained, appropriately staffed, and operationally efficient
- Lead organizational response to safety incidents, critical events, or compliance failures, partnering with HR and legal as appropriate
- Ensure club capacity plans are aligned with enrollment targets and community need across the multi-county service area
- Champion continuous improvement in operational systems, workflows, and staff-facing tools that reclaim time for people-centered work
4. Teen Services & Workforce Readiness
- Provide strategic oversight to teen-focused programming that connects young people to workforce pathways, post-secondary opportunities, and life skills development
- Ensure the Director of Teen Services maintains strong partnerships with local employers, educational institutions, and industry partners
- Track and report on Teen-specific outcomes including employment placements, certifications earned, and post-secondary enrollment rates
- Ensure BGCGA's Teen programs are differentiated, competitive, and mission-aligned with the Life & Workforce Readiness framework, particularly around the 4Eโs model.
5. Human Resources Oversight
- Provide strategic direction to the HR function, ensuring talent acquisition, retention, and development practices support a growing 200+ person workforce
- Partner with the Director of Human Resources to maintain competitive compensation structures, benefits programs, and employee engagement initiatives
- Model and reinforce BGCGA's organizational culture and values, holding leaders accountable for a respectful, inclusive, and high-performance work environment
- Oversee succession planning and leadership pipeline development within the operations portfolio
- Support HR in addressing complex employee relations matters, disciplinary actions, and workforce restructuring as needed
6. Athletics & Health & Wellness Programming
- Provide oversight to the Director of Athletics to ensure sports and recreation programs are safe, well-organized, community-relevant, and mission-aligned
- Support the integration of health and wellness outcomes into athletic programming in alignment with BGCA Health & Wellbeing standards
- Ensure athletic programs serve as a meaningful recruitment and engagement pathway for new Club members
7. Support Services & Member Experience
- Ensure the Director of Support Services maintains reliable, consistent operations in transportation, food service, enrollment, and ancillary support functions
- Oversee member data integrity and enrollment systems to ensure accurate reporting to funders, the board, and BGCA national
- Champion a seamless member and family experience across all Club touchpoints, from enrollment through daily service delivery
8. Budget & Resource Management
- Develop, manage, and monitor the operations budget (estimated $5Mโ$7M range) in coordination with the finance department
- Approve departmental expenditures within established authorization thresholds and escalate variances proactively
- Identify and pursue operational efficiencies that support the organization's path toward a $10M+ annual operating budget
- Support the VP of Development in articulating program model, outcomes data, and operational capacity for grant applications and funder presentations
9. Team Leadership & Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop six director-level leaders through regular 1:1s, annual goal-setting, performance reviews, and professional development planning
- Establish a clear management rhythm across the operations portfolio โ including weekly team meetings, monthly reporting, and quarterly reviews
- Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and innovation across all operational departments
- Serve as a visible and accessible leader to front-line Club staff, modeling BGCGA's mission and values
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, Social Work, or related field required; Master's degree preferred
- Minimum 8โ10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit, youth-serving, education, or human services organizations
- Proven experience managing multi-site operations and leading director-level staff in a complex, high-volume environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans and translate vision into operational outcomes
- Strong fiscal management experience, including budget oversight of $3M+
- Experience managing human resources functions or serving as a senior partner to an HR team
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with comfort engaging boards, funders, and community partners
- Working knowledge of youth development frameworks, program quality standards, and/or BGCA national standards

Preferred
- Experience in Boys & Girls Clubs of America-affiliated organizations or similar youth-serving nonprofits
- Familiarity with BGCA program quality tools including NYOI, Program Assessment, and LWR frameworks
- Experience leading workforce readiness, career pathways, or teen-focused programming initiatives
- Background in grant-funded environments with strong outcomes reporting requirements
- Experience in EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) or comparable organizational management frameworks
