With platforms in HVAC and Detection and Measurement, SPX Technologies builds innovative solutions that enable a safer, more efficient, sustainable world. Through our RiSE talent development framework, we Reach, Identify, Strengthen, and Engage our employees to support them in their continued development. Weโ€™re a global company of problem solvers, collaborators, and innovators, and our businesses build solutions that impact the world.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the VP, IT Operations, you will lead the strategy, modernization, and operational excellence of the enterprise technology infrastructure and service delivery organization.

This role is responsible for all core infrastructure and operations functions including Data Center Operations, Servers, Storage, Network, End User Computing, Voice, Mobile, and Enterprise Service Delivery (internal technical support and outsourced 24x7 helpdesk). You will ensure high availability, resiliency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness across all environments while evolving the organization toward a modern, hybrid, cloud-smart architecture.

You will assess the current infrastructure footprint and operating model, define a forward-looking strategy aligned to business growth and M&A activity, and build the capabilities required to support a scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise platform. This role requires a transformational leader who can modernize legacy environments, elevate team performance, and ensure infrastructure and service operations enableโ€”not constrainโ€”SPXโ€™s strategic objectives.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

1. IT Operations Strategy

  • Develop and execute a multi-year infrastructure and data center modernization roadmap aligned to business strategy and growth objectives.
  • Assess current on-premise environments and define a scalable hybrid architecture incorporating IaaS and PaaS where appropriate.
  • Lead evaluation and modernization of legacy platforms, including end-of-life compute, storage, and voice/PBX systems.
  • Define the future-state data center strategy (on-prem, colocation, cloud, or hybrid), including lifecycle management, resiliency standards, and cost optimization.
  • Establish infrastructure standards that enable rapid and repeatable integration of acquired entities.
  • Drive improvements in uptime, performance, automation, monitoring, and operational maturity.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to availability, service performance, incident trends, capacity utilization, and cost transparency.
  • Partner closely with Information Security to ensure secure-by-design architecture and operational resilience.

2. Network Administration

  • Provide executive oversight of enterprise network architecture including LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, wireless, remote access, and cloud connectivity.
  • Ensure high availability and performance across data center and cloud environments.
  • Lead disaster recovery and business continuity strategy, including failover design, testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish modern monitoring and observability practices across infrastructure platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive simplification, standardization, and automation across infrastructure and network platforms.

3. Technical Service / Support

  • Oversee enterprise Service Delivery, including internal Technical Support Specialists and outsourced 24x7 helpdesk operations.
  • Establish clear SLAs, KPIs, and performance management frameworks for internal and third-party support providers.
  • Drive service management maturity across incident, change, problem, request, and knowledge management processes.
  • Ensure alignment between infrastructure operations and frontline support to reduce recurring issues and improve resolution times.
  • Modernize workplace technology platforms (end user computing, mobile, printing, collaboration, voice) to enhance reliability and user experience.
  • Oversee data center operations including facilities coordination, hardware lifecycle management, vendor governance, and operational runbooks.
  • Optimize vendor contracts and service delivery models for infrastructure and service support.
  • Lead infrastructure and service integration efforts for acquired companies, ensuring stability and speed to integration.
  • Assess current team capabilities across infrastructure, data center operations, and service delivery; identify skill gaps aligned to future-state architecture.
  • Build cloud and automation competencies through hiring, upskilling, and strategic partnerships.
  • Establish clear accountability for uptime, service reliability, operational discipline, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and ownership.
  • Coach and develop leaders and team members, setting clear expectations for modern best practices and operational excellence.
  • Facilitate development of the IT infrastructure and operations budget and provide oversight of capital investments, maintenance, training, facilities, and professional services.
  • Serve as a visible, influential leader capable of translating technical strategy into business value for executive and functional stakeholders.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise IT infrastructure and operations
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary infrastructure and service teams
  • Demonstrated experience leading infrastructure modernization or transformation initiatives
  • Experience designing and operating hybrid environments incorporating on-prem data centers and cloud (IaaS/PaaS)
  • Experience supporting M&A integration activities
  • Proven track record improving uptime, resiliency, and operational maturity
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Deep technical knowledge across servers, storage, virtualization, networking, voice, end user computing, and data center operations
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles (AWS, Azure, or equivalent)

  • Experience evaluating build vs. colocation vs. cloud strategies
  • Strong financial acumen related to infrastructure cost modeling and optimization
  • Experience leading teams through cultural and technical transformation
  • Ability to balance risk management with innovation and business agility
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical strategies to executive audiences
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills in complex, multi-initiative environments
