To thrive as a Volunteer Proposal Writer, you need strong writing, research, and analytical skills, often supported by experience in grant writing or nonprofit communications. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and grant management platforms such as GrantHub is typically required. Excellent organization, attention to detail, and persuasive communication are standout soft skills for crafting compelling proposals and collaborating with diverse teams. These abilities are essential for securing funding, building organizational credibility, and supporting the mission of nonprofits.

What are some common challenges faced by volunteer proposal writers, and how can they overcome them?

Volunteer proposal writers often face challenges such as limited access to data, tight deadlines, and balancing proposal writing with other responsibilities. To overcome these, it's important to establish clear communication with the organization to gather necessary information efficiently and to use templates or past proposals as a starting point. What are Volunteer Proposal Writers?

Volunteer Proposal Writers are individuals who offer their time and writing skills to help organizations, often non-profits or community groups, create compelling proposals. These proposals are typically used to request funding, resources, or partnerships from donors, grant-making bodies, or government agencies. Volunteer Proposal Writers research, draft, and edit documents that clearly outline a project’s needs, goals, and expected outcomes. Their work is crucial in helping organizations secure the support they need to operate and grow. They usually work closely with staff and other volunteers to gather information and ensure proposals align with the organization’s mission.

Job description

Help Us Make It Happen: Proposal Writer & Strategic Storyteller
Are You a Master of the "Winning Word"?
At The Budd Group, our motto is "Great People, Great Service." But before we can deliver that world-class service, we have to win the hearts and minds of our clients. That's where you come in.
We are looking for a high-energy, detail-obsessed Proposal Writer who can take a complex operational plan and turn it into a persuasive masterpiece. You aren't just filling out forms; you are the architect of our "Make It Happen" strategy. You'll bridge the gap between our sales vision and the real-world solutions that keep schools, hospitals, and corporate headquarters running smoothly.
The Mission (How You'll Make an Impact):
  • Drive the Lifecycle: You'll own the end-to-end RFP/RFQ process with a high sense of urgency and a "refuse to lose" mentality.
  • Be the Voice of Budd: You'll craft compelling narratives that highlight our unique family-owned heritage combined with our professional, enterprise-scale capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Pros: You'll sit down with our operational Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to translate technical janitorial and landscaping solutions into value-driven stories.
  • Design High-Impact Visuals: It's not just about the words. You'll build stunning PowerPoint decks and presentations that make our "Great People" shine during client pitches.
  • Curate the Library: You'll maintain and grow our content "arsenal," ensuring our templates and capability statements are always cutting-edge and brand-consistent.

What We're Looking For (Your "Secret Sauce"):
  • Industry Veteran: You have 7+ years of experience specifically in the Facility Services industry (Janitorial, Landscaping, or Maintenance). You know this world inside and out.
  • Sector Expert: You've successfully written winning bids for Manufacturing, Education, and Medical/Office environments.
  • Technical Wordsmith: You have an exceptional ability to make complex business proposals clear, persuasive, and technically accurate.
  • Deadline Warrior: You thrive under pressure and can juggle multiple high-stakes pursuits without breaking a sweat.
  • Tech Power-User: You are a wizard in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint (Google Docs/Slides too!). If you know Salesforce or proposal automation tools, even better.

Why You'll Love Working Here:
  • Legacy of Excellence: Work for a company that actually lives its values of "Great People, Great Service."
  • High Visibility: This is a lead role that reports directly to Marketing and works closely with executive leadership and sales.
  • Family Atmosphere: Experience the stability of a large regional player with the heart and culture of a family-owned business.

Ready to write the next chapter of our growth?
If you are a storyteller with a strategic mind and a passion for winning, we want to see your portfolio! Apply today and help us "Make It Happen" in the Carolinas!
