Loveland Public Library Leadership Position

The City of Loveland is seeking the next leader of the Loveland Public Library working under the Community Placemaking Director. This role collaborates closely within the library, the city and community. Key initiatives include finalizing and implementing the library's strategic plan, advancing community engagement and outreach as well as strengthening the library's impact within Loveland. Established in 1901, Loveland Public Library serves more than 80,000 city residents from a single 57,225 sq. ft. branch that was renovated in 2010.

Essential Functions:

  • Leadership/Strategy: Leads the Library to achieve goals, serve the community and support staff.
  • Community Engagement and Outreach: Supports library programs and resources to maintain service quality and accessibility.
  • Management/Staff Development: Provides leadership, guidance and direction to staff to effectively meet present and future community needs.
  • Budgeting, Contracts and Financial Management: Develops recommended division budget to Department Director and manages library budget, investment accounts and donations, pursues grant funding opportunities and oversees grant expenditures and reporting.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Level and Management Expectations:

  • Oversees a division within a department and responsible for recommending, monitoring and managing the division budget and goals to align with senior leadership objectives.
  • Provides leadership of division and typically at least 2nd level supervision to professional, technical, and skilled employees to assure accountability to department and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Functions as advisor to and typically reports directly to a department director or deputy/assistant director, sets goals and objectives for team members to achieve operational results.
  • Provides guidance, analyzes, and resolves department issues and ensures effective communication across all levels of supervision. Interprets policies and exercises independent judgment and decision making within department. Makes personnel decisions related to hiring, performance, or disciplinary actions. Champions and embodies the company's mission, vision, values, and culture.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Library and Information Science, Public Administration, Education, Social Work or related field required.

Experience:

  • 6 years professional and progressively responsible library experience required.
  • 4 years experience working collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups required.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and or experience may substitute for education requirements on a year for year basis.

Certifications:

  • Ability to develop long and short-term strategies to meet the goals of the City.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of ethics, integrity and discretion.
  • Ability to facilitate and navigate conflict and make difficult decisions.
  • Must possess strong financial acumen, knowledge of change/change process and community outreach.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
  • Frequent minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
  • Occasional exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.

Continues Floating Holiday:

  • This position may work evenings, weekends, and holidays. As a result, this position is eligible for Continues Floating Holiday.
