What is the difference between a graphic designer and a visual designer?

A visual designer is a role that focuses on creating the overall look and feel of digital products, including layout, color schemes, and user interface elements, often requiring skills in design tools like Adobe XD or Figma. A graphic designer typically works on static visual content such as branding, print materials, and marketing assets. While both roles involve visual communication, visual designers emphasize digital experiences and user interaction, whereas graphic designers focus on visual identity and print media.

How does a Visual Designer typically collaborate with other teams during a project?

Visual Designers frequently collaborate with cross-functional teams such as product managers, UX/UI designers, developers, and marketing specialists. Throughout a project, they participate in brainstorming sessions, provide visual concepts, and iterate on feedback from stakeholders to ensure the final design aligns with both user needs and business goals. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as Visual Designers often need to balance creative vision with technical or brand requirements. This collaborative environment helps ensure cohesive and impactful visual experiences across digital and print platforms.

What are Visual Designers?

Visual Designers are creative professionals who focus on the appearance and aesthetics of digital products, such as websites, mobile apps, and user interfaces. They use typography, color, imagery, and layout to create visually appealing and effective designs that enhance user experience. Visual Designers often collaborate with UX designers, developers, and other team members to ensure the final product is both beautiful and functional. Their work helps communicate a brand’s message and values through visual elements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Visual Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Visual Designer, you need strong proficiency in graphic design principles, typography, color theory, and a portfolio demonstrating your creative work, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Expertise in industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with prototyping tools like Figma or Sketch are typically required. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help Visual Designers work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for creating compelling visuals that align with brand goals and ensure a seamless user experience.

Is AI replacing designers?

AI tools are increasingly used by visual designers to automate repetitive tasks, generate ideas, and enhance creativity. However, AI currently serves as a supplement rather than a replacement, as human creativity, critical thinking, and understanding of user experience remain essential in design work. Designers who adapt by learning to work with AI and develop skills in digital tools can stay competitive in the evolving industry.

What Is a Visual Designer?

A visual designer creates designs for clients. Their responsibilities include designing the visual aspects of advertisements, marketing campaigns, and products. Specific job duties vary depending on their employer or clients. For example, they may create product labels, layout print publications, or design web pages. They often meet with clients to determine their needs, collaborate with other graphic designers, create design plans, and submit sketches and project proposals.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A successful freelance visual designer can earn $10,000 or more per month by working with clients on branding, digital media, or UI/UX projects, often leveraging skills in Adobe Creative Suite and a strong portfolio. High earnings typically require experience, a solid reputation, and the ability to secure consistent clients, but a formal degree is not always necessary in this field.

Job description

About Us:

We are an innovative technology startup focused on transforming professional services through cutting-edge software solutions and deep domain expertise. Our platform automates complex workflows, engaging humans only when needed to maximize efficiency and accuracy. Join us at the forefront of innovation, where your expertise will directly shape the future of professional services.

About the Role:

We're looking for a Visual Designer with a strong understanding of business to help shape how our company communicates visually. This role goes beyond "making things look good", you'll design visuals that support business goals, tell clear stories, and influence decisions.

Your primary focus will be PowerPoint presentations and business graphics, with opportunities over time to contribute to website design and product UI.

You'll work closely with leadership, product, and go-to-market teams to translate complex ideas into clear, polished, and effective visuals.

What You'll Do

Core Responsibilities

  • Design executive-level PowerPoint decks for sales, customers, partners, and investors
  • Create business visuals (process flows, system diagrams, data visuals, frameworks)
  • Help structure presentations so they tell a clear business story, not just slides
  • Develop and maintain templates for decks, one-pagers, and internal docs
  • Support office and brand design needs (signage, printed materials, internal visuals)

Growth Areas

  • Assist with website design and visual updates
  • Contribute to UI design for product interfaces and dashboards
  • Partner with engineering and product teams on design handoff and iteration
  • Help evolve the company's visual and brand system
What We're Looking For

Design Skills

  • Strong visual design fundamentals (layout, hierarchy, typography, color)
  • Advanced experience with PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools

Business Mindset (Important)

  • Strong understanding of business concepts (strategy, go-to-market, metrics, workflows)
  • Experience designing for executive audiences
  • Ability to turn complex or abstract ideas into clear visuals
  • Thinks in terms of outcomes, clarity, and persuasion, not just aesthetics
Nice to Have
  • Background in business, consulting, finance, or startups
  • Experience working with leadership teams
  • Exposure to product or UX design
  • Familiarity with Webflow or design systems
Why This Role
  • Direct exposure to leadership and strategic initiatives
  • High impact on how the company communicates and presents itself
  • Opportunity to grow into web and product UI design
  • Ownership over business-critical visuals, not just marketing assets
