As of Jul 22, 2026, the average hourly pay for virtual quickbooks in the United States is $24.40, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.43 and $27.40 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Why do CPAs not like QuickBooks Online?

CPAs often prefer desktop versions of QuickBooks over QuickBooks Online because the desktop version offers more advanced features, customization options, and better support for complex accounting needs. QuickBooks Online's cloud-based system can have limitations in reporting, data security, and integration with other professional tools, which may be a concern for CPAs managing multiple client accounts.

Is AI replacing bookkeepers?

AI tools are automating many routine bookkeeping tasks, such as data entry and reconciliation, which can reduce the need for manual work. However, virtual bookkeepers still play a vital role in interpreting financial data, providing advice, and handling complex or unique accounting situations that require human judgment. The role is evolving, with technology augmenting rather than fully replacing bookkeepers.

What are some common challenges faced by Virtual QuickBooks specialists when managing multiple clients remotely?

Virtual QuickBooks specialists often juggle multiple clients with varying bookkeeping needs and financial systems. A common challenge is maintaining clear communication to ensure timely receipt of documents and clarification of transactions. Managing deadlines for different clients can also be demanding, requiring strong organizational skills and effective use of project management tools. Additionally, ensuring data security and confidentiality while working remotely is crucial, so staying updated on best practices for secure data sharing is important.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual QuickBooks Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual QuickBooks Specialist, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping practices, and experience with QuickBooks software, often supported by relevant certifications or coursework. Familiarity with cloud-based accounting platforms, financial reporting tools, and possibly QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification is highly valued. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing client accounts remotely and resolving inquiries. These skills ensure accurate financial management, client satisfaction, and efficient remote workflow in a virtual bookkeeping environment.

What Are Virtual QuickBooks Jobs?

Virtual QuickBooks jobs include a variety of accounting and bookkeeping positions that focus on using QuickBooks software. In one of these online roles, you work from home to process each financial statement from the company, help your employer determine whether or not they have the funds to finance a project, perform data entry, and otherwise provide general accounting services. Most virtual QuickBooks jobs do not focus exclusively on this accounting software. While you may spend a lot of time using it, you may also perform other accounting-related services, such as preparing reports or helping fill out paperwork for taxes. Many virtual QuickBooks jobs are full-time positions with a single employer, but you can also work with multiple clients instead. This is particularly common if you work for an accounting agency instead of a regular employer.

What is the difference between Virtual Quickbooks vs Virtual Bookkeeper?

Both roles often overlap but differ in scope: QuickBooks specialists are more software-centric, whereas Bookkeepers provide comprehensive bookkeeping services.

How much do QuickBooks Online bookkeepers make?

QuickBooks Online bookkeepers typically earn between $15 and $30 per hour, depending on experience, location, and whether they work freelance or for a company. Salaries can range from around $30,000 to $60,000 annually for full-time positions, with advanced skills and certifications potentially increasing earning potential.

What is a Virtual QuickBooks specialist?

A Virtual QuickBooks specialist is a professional who manages accounting and bookkeeping tasks remotely using QuickBooks software. They help businesses track income and expenses, manage invoices, reconcile accounts, and generate financial reports, all online. By working virtually, they provide flexibility and cost savings for businesses that do not need a full-time, in-house bookkeeper. Virtual QuickBooks specialists often work for multiple clients and are skilled in using both QuickBooks Online and Desktop versions.

Can you work for QuickBooks from home?

A Virtual QuickBooks professional can often work from home, especially if the role involves bookkeeping, accounting, or support tasks that can be performed remotely. Strong computer skills, familiarity with QuickBooks software, and reliable internet are essential for remote work in this field.

Job description

(Please note: Applicants must reside in one of the following states, Arizona, Nebraska, Tennessee or Oregon. Additionally QuickBooks Online experience is required)

Our client is a virtual, innovative, tech-centric, non-tax CPA firm. They're not boring. They don't have boring clients. They come to work, do their work, have fun, and finish at a reasonable hour. Busy season is a breeze, because they don't do taxes. And, I promise, they will not micro-manage, but they do expect everyone to maintain dedicated workspaces that support focus and team goals.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Our client's CPA firm is growing and needs an additional Bookkeeper to keep their team busy, but not overwhelmed. They care about each other while wanting to give their best to each client.

They need someone with 2-5 years of bookkeeping experience, public accounting or multi-client bookkeeping experience is a bonus, but they're open to candidates with strong bookkeeping experience in other settings. This person needs to step-in and quickly/effectively handle the day-to-day bookkeeping processes from start to finish.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enter transactions from the bank feeds
  • Entering & paying bills
  • Entering invoices & customer payments
  • Reconciling bank accounts
  • Track & maintain workflow
  • Reporting and analytics

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:

  • QuickBooks Online: 2-3 years' experience (must be currently using)
  • Excel and Office: highly proficient
  • Proficient on PC
  • Dedicated workspace to support focus
  • Public accounting or multi-client experience is a plus, not a requirement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Residence in Arizona, Nebraska, Tennessee or Oregon
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer

OFFERING:

  • Compensation: $23-27/hr
  • 100% Employee Health/Vision/Dental Insurance
  • Matching SIMPLE IRA (after waiting period)
  • PTO and Holiday Pay
