Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

In this role, you will contribute to building the technology that drives Barclays' next generation of regulated digital asset capabilities. You'll design and develop secure, scalable platforms that enable tokenization, wallet-driven workflows, smart contract functionality, and seamless integration with core enterprise systems-offering the opportunity to work on high-impact engineering at the leading edge of financial innovation.

To be successful as a Senior Engineer VP - Digital Assets, you should:

  • Bring proven experience designing and building tokenized deposits, bonds, repos, stablecoins, and related digital asset systems in a regulated financial institution

  • Have practical expertise across L1s/L2s, smart contracts, cryptographic services,and interoperability frameworks

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of token standards, and on-chain settlement concepts, and apply this knowledge to enterprise Digital Asset design in a regulated environment

  • Be comfortable owning technical solutions end-to-end, from design and development through testing, deployment, and continuous improvement

  • Apply DevSecOps discipline, including CI/CD,secrets management, cloud security, and automated testing

  • Be confident using AI-enabled engineering and productivity tooling to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, enhance decision-making and mitigate technology and operational risk

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Knowledge of payments systems, instant payments, cross-border flows, and digital asset-enabled settlement

  • Understanding of capital markets workflows, including issuance, trading, DvP/PvP, lifecycle events, and corporate actions

  • Experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes/containers, API gateways, Kafka, and enterprise messaging

  • Considerable grounding in distributed systems patterns, secure engineering, and modern software design principles

  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, architecture, product, risk, compliance, and operations teams

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in our Whippany, NJ office.

Minimum Salary: $170,000

Maximum Salary: $230,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.
