Job description
Are you passionate about practicing great medicine while helping shape the future of veterinary teams?
Veterinary United is seeking an experienced veterinarian to join our organization as a Veterinary Engagement Team (VET) Leader—a unique hybrid role designed for doctors who want to continue practicing medicine while expanding their impact through leadership, mentorship, and organizational development.
This opportunity is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys coaching colleagues, driving positive change, and influencing clinical excellence while remaining actively involved in patient care.
Your Impact
As a Veterinary Engagement Team Leader, you'll divide your time between clinical practice and leadership initiatives that support our growing network of veterinary hospitals.
Clinical Responsibilities (3 Days Per Week)
- Practice high-quality medicine and surgery within Veterinary United hospitals
- Partner with hospital teams to elevate patient care and client experience
- Provide clinical support and guidance to veterinarians and support staff
- Serve as a trusted resource for medical and surgical best practices
Leadership & Development Responsibilities (2 Days Per Week)
- Mentor and support veterinarians throughout various stages of their careers
- Assist in developing and implementing medical standards, protocols, and best practices
- Collaborate with hospital leadership to improve workflow efficiency and team engagement
- Help establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) that support clinical and operational success
- Contribute to doctor recruitment, onboarding, retention, and professional development initiatives
- Participate in leadership projects focused on growth, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Support the creation and refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and clinical resources
- Responsible for documenting and preparing reports following DVM one-on-one meetings and uploading those updates to the Vet Engagement Team Basecamp platform to ensure communication, visibility, and alignment across the team.
- Participate in Doctor Lead Team meetings, including the twice-yearly in-person spring and fall meetings, as well as the monthly Doctor Lead calls.
- Participate in weekly Monday Vet Engagement Team meetings at the Hub to collaborate, discuss priorities, and align on current initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
- Active veterinary license in good standing (or ability to obtain Michigan licensure)
- Strong clinical and surgical skills
- A passion for mentorship, coaching, and developing others
- Interest in leadership, hospital operations, and organizational growth
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
- A desire to positively influence veterinary medicine beyond the exam room
Why This Role Is Different
Many leadership positions require veterinarians to leave clinical medicine entirely. This role allows you to continue practicing medicine while helping shape the future of our hospitals and doctors.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Maintain meaningful clinical work
- Develop leadership and management experience
- Mentor the next generation of veterinarians
- Influence medical standards and hospital operations
- Collaborate directly with organizational leadership
- Make a lasting impact across multiple veterinary teams
Why Veterinary United?

With a collaborative culture, strong leadership support, and a commitment to professional growth, Veterinary United provides an environment where doctors can expand their influence while continuing to do what they love most—caring for patients and supporting veterinary teams.
If you're looking for an opportunity to combine medicine, mentorship, leadership, and strategic impact, we'd love to speak with you.
