About the Role:

The Lead Cable Technician role primarily involves the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within a Data Center environment. A key aspect is the continuous pursuit of sustainable, repeatable, and improved solutions and processes. The individual is expected to provide leadership to crews and provide structured feedback on project progress to various stakeholders, ensuring high-quality workmanship, maintaining Data Center cleanliness, and adhering to all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices. The role also requires collaboration with stakeholders to resolve project obstacles and the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation. A broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies is essential.

What You will Do:

  • Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
  • Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, always with an eye on improvement.
  • Provide structured feedback on project progress to Stakeholders.
  • Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
  • Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with various Stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
  • Reading and comprehending blueprints and building documentation/redline work.
  • Broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.


What You will Need:

  • Experienced in fusion splicing and should know how to pull all types of low voltage cables.
  • Must be capable of leading a crew of 5+ technicians. 
  • Must understand customer service, perform job walks and communicate with customer.
  • Accept responsibility for the outcome of work performed by employees that report to him/her.
  • Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools. 
  • Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
  • Be able to read and understand job floor plan.
  • Should be familiar on wiring schemes and wiring testing. 
  • Should understand and be capable in performing field terminations and labeling.
  • Capable of maintaining orderly paperwork, capable of running midsize to large projects and service jobs.
  • Possess skill to layout MDF and IDF closets,  dress all types of cable and perform terminations and should include understanding of fiber equipment, all types of cable and fiber terminations.
  • Understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
  • Shall be able to work on analog, DSL, and be able to extend T1 lines.
  • Be able to patch network equipment.
  • Track and submit timesheets for crew reporting
  • Copper/Fiber (term, test, splice, troubleshoot)
  • Effectively communicate with Foreman, Leads, Techs
  • Understanding metrics/SLA's and able to track
  • Coordinates with QAQC on quality status walks
  • Knowledge and understanding of Project Close Out
  • Identify the tech's strengths and weaknesses

The pay range for this position is subject to an applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. The negotiated rate for the Union Engineer position is $44.71 hourly. Please refer to the Collective Bargaining Agreement regarding pay scale. This role will provide the following benefits: 401(K), Dental Insurance, Health Insurance, Life Insurance and Vision Insurance.
