Stationary Engineer - JLL
What this job involves:
We are seeking an experienced Union Stationary Engineer to support our client General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the overall maintenance, operation, and oversight of building systems and manufacturing process equipment that keep our client's facility running at peak performance. You'll monitor system operations, perform equipment repairs, execute predictive maintenance tasks, and respond to equipment needs to ensure zero powerhouse downtime. By combining your technical expertise with safety leadership and operational excellence, you'll directly contribute to JLL's commitment to delivering world-class facilities management services that support our clients' manufacturing success and maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
What your day-to-day will look like:
• Monitor and maintain manufacturing process equipment including chilled water systems, sub-freezing chiller systems, water tube boilers, fire tube boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, compressed air dryers, zero air systems, and cooling tower/boiler water chemical treatment systems
• Diagnose and repair mechanical systems including steam traps, DDC control valves, air actuators, piping systems, and PLC panels while conducting vibration analysis to support predictive maintenance programs
• Operate and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS), building monitoring systems, and building utility and piping systems to ensure optimal facility performance and energy efficiency
• Complete logging and data retention activities including logbook data entries, plant meter readings, equipment trending, and compressed air leak reports to support operational decision-making and compliance requirements
• Lead safety initiatives by ensuring employee safety training compliance, completing safety PMs and repairs, participating in the employee safety concern process, and utilizing pre-task planning methods
• Achieve performance measurables including zero powerhouse downtime, Help Desk immediate work orders completed within 24 hours, PM completion, environmental PM completion and reporting, and general housekeeping in common work areas
• Manage personnel responsibilities including compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, submission of employee PTO/vacation requests, maintenance of current forklift and aerial lift operators' licenses, and successful completion of scheduled training
Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED with minimum 8+ years of verifiable facility maintenance experience including boiler and chiller maintenance
• Valid Boiler Operators, Refrigeration Operators, or Stationary Engineers license required
• CFC Universal certification required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and communication
• Ability to safely operate portable hand and power tools in compliance with OSHA safety standards
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems diagnosis, repair techniques, and predictive maintenance methodologies including vibration analysis
• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), PLC panels, and building monitoring systems for facilities operations
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with cooling tower and boiler water chemical treatment programs and water quality management
• Knowledge of energy management principles, utility optimization, and sustainability practices in manufacturing environments
• Experience working in automotive, aerospace, or heavy manufacturing facilities with union workforce environments
• Familiarity with compressed air system optimization, leak detection programs, and energy conservation initiatives
• Experience with environmental compliance reporting, permit management, and regulatory documentation requirements
• Current forklift and aerial lift operators' licenses with demonstrated safe operation practices
• Additional certifications in HVAC, refrigeration, or facilities management (CFM, FMP, or related credentials)
